Our jade classroom saved 2 baby birds who had fallen out of the nest, and made them a home. The children in jade watch Mommy bird come and check on her babies every day to feed them. They have learned so much about Mother Nature, how birds are born and grow up, how they are fed, and so much more. Our jade teachers say “ Ccsc community has a space for all friends including these babies. It has been a learning life lesson Mother Nature has taught us”

Our butterfly garden in BKP is finished! The Children wanted to build a home in the yard for their Butterflies. After many days of sewing and gluing, and adding flowers for our butterflies, we finally were able to release them into their new home! We walked all around the yard together and found just the right spot with not too much sun and not too much shade.

One of our lovely teachers gifted the children plant cuttings. They decided to do an experiment!

The children placed these cuttings in water and learned about the process of Propagation. They learned about plant growth by watching the roots sprout and grow in the water; They learned about the technique of growing new plants from the stem of one without using seeds.

The children then monitored the plants for growth for several days/weeks. After the plants were ready, the children then used soil to plant them in their individual pots which they then painted. The plants are now displayed in the Redwood room.

Our CCSC children took a deep dive into the world of Art. Utilizing natural materials found all around us, they learned how to make their own paint. They started out by grinding their own pigments from dried fruits, making paint with that pigment, and creating artwork. They showcased this work in an art exhibit inviting families and other classrooms to come have a peak.

About Us

The Children's Center of the Stanford Community (CCSC)—one of the largest parent cooperatives in the state of California—currently serves more than 125 families of Stanford University faculty, staff, and students. CCSC has nine classrooms and offers part- and full-time early childhood learning programs for children from 8 weeks to five years old. Accredited by the NAEYC, the play-based educational philosophy of the Center is grounded in the belief that children are competent, curious, and resourceful learners. Founded by Stanford graduate students in 1969, CCSC is the first nonprofit, the only cooperative childcare Center on the Stanford University campus.
