🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

Residents and business owners are urged to be aware of an ongoing phone scam involving individuals falsely claiming to be with the local sheriff’s office.

Callers are telling victims they have an outstanding warrant for arrest and demanding payment to avoid being taken into custody. In some cases, they may instruct you to withdraw large sums of money or send payment through unusual methods. In some instances, the money was told to be delivered to an address (A gas station).

This is a scam. Law enforcement will never request payment over the phone to avoid arrest.

If you receive a call like this:
• Do not provide any personal or financial information
• Do not send money or follow their instructions
• Hang up immediately

If you are unsure, contact the Stanfield Police Department or your local law enforcement agency directly using a verified phone number.

If you believe you have been targeted or victimized, please report it to your local law enforcement agency.

Please share this information to help protect others in our community.

"April is Child Abuse Prevention Month"
The Stanfield Police Department is proud to support the important work of the Butterfly House Children's Advocacy Center. This vital resource in our community provides a safe, child-focused environment where children and families receive the care, protection, and support they need during difficult times.

Through coordinated investigations with law enforcement, prosecutors, social services, and medical professionals, the Butterfly House ensures every child receives comprehensive, compassionate care. Their team offers advocacy support to guide children and caregivers through each step of the process, conducts specialized forensic interviews in a comfortable, child-friendly setting to reduce trauma, and provides thorough medical exams by certified professionals.

We stand with the Butterfly House in their mission to protect children and support families. If you suspect child abuse, please report it by calling the National Child Abuse Hotline at 800-422-4453, or dial 911 if a child is in immediate danger.

February 15, 2026, is School Resource Officer Day, and we’re proud to give a well deserved shoutout to Sgt. Zachary Caldwell for his outstanding service at Stanfield Elementary School.

If you’ve been on campus, you’ve seen him…greeting students in the morning, checking in with staff, and keeping a watchful eye on things throughout the day. Sgt. Caldwell is a steady, visible presence who helps ensure that students and teachers can focus on learning in a safe and secure environment. His professionalism, preparedness, and calm leadership make a real difference.

But being a School Resource Officer is about more than a badge and a patrol car. Sgt. Caldwell is also a mentor, a listener, and a positive role model. He takes time to build relationships, answer questions (Yes, even the tough ones), and demonstrate what integrity, respect, and accountability look like in action. Those everyday interactions help shape not just safer hallways, but stronger futures.

We know the role of SRO is important, and we’re thankful to have someone who carries it out with dedication and heart. Today, the Stanfield Police Department proudly recognizes Sgt Caldwell for going above and beyond in service to our students, staff, and community.

Join us in thanking him for the work he does, not just today, but every day.

Stanly County Back-to-School Safety Reminder

Stanly County students return to school this morning, Monday, August 11, 2025. As you commute, please remain vigilant around schools, pedestrian crossings, and stopped school buses. Let’s make safety our top priority this year and ensure all commuters, walkers, and bike riders arrive at their destinations safely.

Reminder:

- Expect heavier traffic near schools.

- Stop at crosswalks when pedestrians are present.

- School buses will be stopping frequently to pick up and drop off students—you must stop when their stop arm is extended and lights are flashing.

- Obey the posted 25 MPH speed limit in school zones.

Your attention and caution can help make this a safe and successful school year for everyone.

Thank you,
