Greene County Office of Emergency Services The Greene County Office of Emergency Services is responsible for overall coordination of emergency services within the County of Greene, Virginia.

Mission / Department Description:

The Greene County Office of Emergency Services strives to protect our community by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain and improve capabilities to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism or other man-made disasters. Our goal is to promote a safer, less

vulnerable community that possesses the ability and capacity to cope with hazards and disasters. The Greene County Office of Emergency Services is responsible for overall coordination of emergency services in Greene County. This includes coordinating local emergency planning, training, exercise activities and overseeing the maintenance of the local Emergency Operations Plan. The office is responsible for the operational response to local emergencies and natural or man-made disasters as well as overseeing the readiness of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and managing the EOC upon activation. The Emergency Services Office maintains liaison with local public safety officials, local government, state and federal agencies, school officials, organized emergency volunteer groups, industry and other organizations that may be involved in the four (4) phases of emergency management; preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. extending from near Stanardsville to 8 miles south of Culpeper,
moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches
to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as
damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by
downed trees. Localized power outages are possible.
Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

At 337 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Free Union, or 13 miles north of Charlottesville, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
