🚨 Traffic Advisory – Stamping Ground 🚨

Please use caution if traveling between Sebree Street and Burch Street on Main Street in Stamping Ground.

Emergency crews are currently responding to a barn fire just off Main Street, and there are fire and emergency service personnel working in the area with stopped traffic.

With the onslaught of this large winter storm many have added space heaters to their homes to help combat the lower temperatures. Below are some significant statistics that will hopefully inspire those of us using space heaters to practice heater safety as discussed in the attached National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) flyer.

Heating Fire Statistics- Based on 2020-2024 annual averages:

-Space heaters and heating stoves were the type of heating equipment responsible for the largest shares of losses in home heating equipment fires, accounting for nearly half (47%) of the fires, but over seven out of ten deaths (73%) and seven out of ten (70%) of the injuries in home fires caused by heating equipment.

- Fires originating in a kitchen or cooking area accounted for the largest share of home heating fires (19%).

- While the larger (non-confined) fires involving fireplaces or chimneys were involved in fewer than one in ten fires caused by heating equipment (8%), they caused just over one-fourth of the direct property damage (26%).

- Nearly half of the heating equipment fires (46%) occurred in the three-month period from December through February.

Plan for reduced speed and longer times for your travel today for your safe commuting.

After a rainy day in much of the state and temperatures dipping below freezing on Friday morning, moisture on the roads can freeze and create slick spots. Slow down and watch for black ice on your morning commute.

Crews are monitoring local weather conditions and will respond as appropriate.

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from the Stamping Ground Volunteer Fire Department! 🦃

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reminds us, “for most, the kitchen is the heart of the home, especially during the holidays. From testing family recipes to decorating cakes and cookies, everyone enjoys being part of the preparations.”

This Thanksgiving, our department—and fire departments across the nation—ask that you make fire safety a top priority during this joyful and busy holiday. With family, friends, and visitors all gathering in the kitchen, it’s especially important to stay alert and prepared.

🔥 Holiday Kitchen Safety Tips:
• Keep an eye on what you fry—never leave the stove unattended.
• Keep children and pets a safe distance from hot surfaces.
• Keep flammable items (towels, oven mitts, packaging) away from the stovetop.
• Double-check that smoke alarms are working.
• Make sure pathways are clear to avoid slips and spills.

Your attention to safety helps ensure a warm, happy, and fire-free holiday for everyone!

🚨 And remember: If an emergency happens—no matter how small—don’t hesitate. CALL 911. We’re here for you.

From our Stamping Ground Volunteer Fire Department family to yours…
🍂 Have a safe, joyful, and Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

We are seeing several roads around the county becoming very slick in places and vehicle collisions are starting to increase.
This is a reminder to take your time and don't get in a rush. Increase your following distance between the cars in front of you. Be prepared.

BURN BAN: [September 17, 2025]

Please be advised there is a countywide burn ban in effect until further notice. During this Ban NO outside burning should take place.

As a result of the decreased amount of rainfall in the previous weeks along with the future forecast not expecting significant rainfall to correct our current dry conditions the Burn Ban has been issued by the Judge Executive for Scott County. The current conditions create a great risk of outdoor fires becoming rapidly progressing and uncontrollable with greater risk of spreading across dry areas not only putting lands and homes in jeopardy but also creating a risk to persons should a fire occur.

The order can be viewed here:

Congratulations Fire Marshal Cromer! We are sure he will continue to bring his professionalism, dedication and exceptional service to our communities in this new role!

Scott County Fire Department is thrilled to announce the appointment of a new Fire Marshal position.

With Scott County, Kentucky, growing at an accelerated rate over the last several years, SCFD has taken a significant step forward by increasing fire prevention efforts with this newly established position.

Filling this role is SCFD's very own, Josh Cromer.
Since joining the fire service in 2018, Marshall Cromer has earned certifications from the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) and the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), authored several department-wide Standard Operating Procedures, and led several department-wide training initiatives.

Moving forward in this new capacity, Marshal Cromer will be responsible for ensuring fire code compliance across commercial and public facilities, managing public safety outreach, and serving as a technical resource for local emergency response teams.

We could not be more thankful for the support we have received from our local government the community we serve, and our members.

Congratulations!
