🚀 At the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program, we don’t just place students in internships bur we prepare them for success.

Once students are accepted into MYEP, their résumés are personally reviewed and revised, and our Leadership Workshops teach them how to build a strong, professional résumé for future opportunities.

Here Are Out Top 4 Tips For An Outstanding Résumé:
✅ Show impact, not duties
✅ Tailor to each role
✅ Keep it clean & skimmable
✅ Highlight unique value (skills, awards, certifications)

💡 Our students leave with confidence, career-readiness skills, and a résumé that tells their story of impact.

Thessiana Mesilus is such a star ⭐ and we are incredibly proud of how far she’s come.

A member of the MYEP Class of 2013, Thessiana interned at the Stamford Center for the Arts – Palace Theatre. She went on to earn a BS in Psychology and Human Development & Family Studies from UConn and later a Master’s in Psychology from Lynn University 🎓.

MYEP helped her secure her first full-time administrative role at a theatre, where she gained exposure to leaders in the hospitality industry. That experience led to a six-year career with Marriott, expanded management skills, and opportunities in recruiting and HR. She eventually realized her true passion: leadership, talent development, and helping people grow 🌱.

After taking a leap into a junior recruiter role, Thessiana worked her way up and is now a Manager of Talent Acquisition at a staffing and HR agency.
We’re so proud to have played a part in her journey. MYEP continues to give students the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to explore their passions.

If you want to give Stamford youth that same opportunity, don’t hesitate — scan the QR code or contact Michelle Lappas at [email protected]

✨ Did You Know?

Youth employment programs are essential for so many reasons. Preparing our young people for the workforce strengthens our local economy, supports community safety, and helps create a fair, inclusive workplace for underprivileged students.

At the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program, we’re proud to have served over 1,014 students over the past 15 years — contributing more than 140,000 hours of paid work experience and 30,000 hours of work-readiness training.

⚠️But here’s the challenge: the cost of providing paid internships has increased by 64% since the program began.

💼 Join us in supporting our local youth!

You can make an impact by donating the cost of a student’s summer salary or hosting a student — just like our amazing community partners: Deloitte, Carmody Law LLC, Courtyard by Marriott, Aircastle, Gorilla Commerce, Sound Federal Credit Union, local non-profits, and city departments.

Together, we can continue building brighter futures for our youth! Scan the QR or contact Michelle Lappas at [email protected] for more information

🎥⚠️ WARNING: Surveillance in progress — future security professionals at work!

We’re so proud to announce that our young adults are now officially Guard Card Certified! 🛡️ With this certification, students can pursue careers in security, loss prevention, and public safety, while also opening doors to future opportunities in law enforcement and related fields.

Our students came to us through the Stamford Young Adult Certification Program (SYACP), where they’ve earned certifications in Generative AI, Cybersecurity, and more! We worked one-on-one with each of them to create personalized plans for their future and identify the next steps to help them reach their goals.

Best of all, this Guard Card training was fully funded, meaning students didn’t have to pay out of pocket!

Daniela Paredes has truly made a name for herself! 🌟

Daniela completed two summer internships with MYEP, working at the Stamford Government Center’s Probate Office and at Affinion Group. After that, Daniela returned to the program as a Program Facilitator, helping coordinate the very program she once participated in! From Program Facilitator to Enterprise Account Manager at Bloomberg, we couldn’t be prouder of how she’s taken the skills learned through MYEP and built an incredible career.

When asked what she enjoyed most about her time in MYEP, Daniela shared:
“I enjoyed gaining exposure to senior leaders at the organizations I interned with, as well as meeting students from other high schools in the district. Use this as an opportunity to start building your network!” 💬

Stories like Daniela’s are exactly why we do what we do. Her journey reminds us how powerful opportunity and mentorship can be. You can be part of this movement so help us empower the next generation of Stamford leaders!

🍕 Happy Italian Heritage Month from the Stamford Youth Services Bureau!

Did you know that Stamford has one of the largest Italian-American populations in Connecticut? Italian immigrants first began settling in Stamford in the late 1800s, bringing with them strong traditions of family, food, and community. Today, their influence lives on through local favorites like our Italian restaurants, bakeries, and annual cultural events.

At the Stamford Youth Services Bureau, we’re proud to celebrate the contributions of our Italian-American residents and the students who continue to honor their heritage through hard work, leadership, and community involvement.

Buon Italian Heritage Month! 💚🤍❤️
