Red light therapy (photobiomodulation) is often discussed in relation to pain and inflammation and is also widely marketed in consumer wellness devices.

Some research has explored its effects in pain-related conditions, but there is currently no clinical evidence evaluating its use for persistent symptoms following Lyme disease.

Have you heard about red light therapy or used it?

For many people living with Lyme disease, it's not just the symptoms that wear you down—it's feeling like no one else really knows what you're going through. But sometimes, putting "pen to pain" can help us process our experiences and connect with others who get it.

In this blog, author and Lyme warrior Jennifer Crystal shares how writing became a healing tool in her own journey, along with practical tips and prompts for anyone who wants to start writing about Lyme, chronic illness, or life beyond illness.

As Maya Angelou said, "Writing moves the I to We."

Whether you're journaling privately, writing letters you'll never send, or exploring your own illness narrative, your story matters.

Apparently, we’re maxxing everything now.

Sleep maxxing. Morning routine maxxing. Productivity maxxing.

So we’d like to submit Anti-Tick Maxxing for consideration.

The goal? Enjoying the outdoors while making yourself significantly less interesting to ticks.

What belongs on the anti-tick maxxing checklist? 👇

Bright lights. Loud music. A busy restaurant.

For many people living with Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, these aren't just annoyances — they can be genuinely overwhelming.

Sensory overload is a real and often invisible part of life with tick-borne illness. Bright screens, fluorescent lights, background noise, and crowded spaces can become difficult to tolerate, making everyday activities more challenging than they appear.

Sometimes it's the most ordinary moments that become the hardest to navigate.

Lyme disease can result in sensory overloading, causing patients to develop a sensitivity to both light and sound.

Could a non-invasive form of vagus nerve stimulation be safely used in people experiencing persistent symptoms following Lyme disease?

Researchers at Columbia University are exploring that question in a new pilot study.

The study is investigating transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS), a non-invasive approach that uses mild electrical pulses delivered through the outer ear to stimulate the vagus nerve.

The team is examining whether this approach is safe, well-tolerated, and potentially helpful for symptoms that may include fatigue, pain, cognitive difficulties, and mood or sleep issues in some patients with persistent Lyme symptoms.

While the research is still in its early stages, studies like this play an important role in advancing understanding and care for those affected by Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses.

Read the full blog to learn more about the science behind the study, why researchers are focusing on the vagus nerve, and how eligible patients can participate.

Here's something you don't see every day:

Restaurants on Martha's Vineyard are rethinking everything — menu labels, food preparation, even their cookware — to better accommodate people living with alpha-gal syndrome. Chefs are marking menus "AGF," swapping cast iron for stainless steel, and finding new ways to build flavor without mammalian ingredients.

It's a look at what happens when a condition becomes common enough that communities start adapting to it and what that can mean for the people affected.

Alpha-gal syndrome, the tick-borne allergy to mammalian food products, can turn a night out to dinner into a night at the hospital. With rates of the condition soaring on the Vineyard, both food service workers and customers are figuring out how to keep restaurant dining safe.

Summer camp season is here. ☀️🏕️

For many kids, it brings new friendships, outdoor adventures, and memories that last long after summer ends. It also means spending more time in environments where ticks may be present.

Children have one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the United States, which is why it's important to take a few simple precautions before camp begins.

Before your child heads off, take a few minutes to review these prevention tips — and what to do when they get home:

✔️ Wear protective clothing, including long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes
✔️ Pack an EPA-registered insect repellent
✔️ Perform daily tick checks
✔️ Check clothing and gear when coming back indoors
✔️ Shower and dry clothing on high heat after outdoor activities

A little preparation can go a long way toward helping families enjoy the season with greater peace of mind.

Save this post for camp packing season and share it with another parent or caregiver.

Symptoms can be real, disruptive, and life-changing — even when test results don’t tell the full story.

Better answers start with listening. 💚
