Happy Tails: Bingo! 🐾

We are thrilled to share a wonderful update on Bingo! After spending time in several different homes, this sweet boy has finally found the forever family he truly deserves.

His adopters recently checked in with this heartwarming note:

"He is such a sweet boy, and gets along great with our other dogs. He loves playing with balls, and he is so good at sitting nicely for treats. Thank you for taking great care of him while he waited for a home – we are so glad he ended up with us!"

Seeing Bingo settle in so comfortably and happily alongside his new canine siblings means everything to us. Thank you to his amazing adopters for giving Bingo the loving, permanent home he was waiting for!

Please join us in wishing Bingo and his family a lifetime of belly rubs, game-winning fetch sessions, and endless treats! 🐶✨

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE SHELTER 🚨

Our community’s support means so much to us, and we want to be transparent with you about a precautionary step we are taking to protect the dogs in our care.

Effective immediately, our dog adoption floor will be temporarily closed. At this time, we plan to reopen on September 26, provided there are no additional positive cases.

Here’s what happened:

On Friday, one of the dogs in our care began showing symptoms. She initially tested negative for parvo at the shelter, but because of her symptoms, she was transported to Cladda for additional veterinary care. Their testing subsequently came back positive for parvo.

Because she had been in several areas of the shelter during the possible exposure period, we are taking every precaution. This means temporarily closing all dog areas, thoroughly deep cleaning potentially exposed spaces, and re-vaccinating dogs who are due or in need of a booster.

We are also temporarily pausing routine dog intakes for approximately two weeks. We know this is a difficult decision, and we do not take it lightly. While we work to get a handle on this situation, we want to be extremely cautious about bringing additional dogs into the facility and potentially increasing the risk of exposure.

We will continue to schedule dog intakes out as needed, and emergency situations will still be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to give the dogs currently in our care the safest environment possible while our team completes cleaning, monitoring, vaccination, and exposure protocols.

❤️ There is some really encouraging news.

The majority of the dogs currently in our care were vaccinated when they entered the shelter. Vaccination provides important protection against parvo, and we are hopeful that these precautions will help us get through this quickly and safely.

Our team is working incredibly hard right now—cleaning, disinfecting, reviewing exposures, monitoring the dogs closely, and doing everything we can to keep them healthy. We know a temporary closure is difficult, especially for the dogs who are waiting for their forever families, but the health and safety of the animals in our care has to come first.

We are asking our community for a little patience and a lot of support while we navigate this.

🐱 And the good news? Our cat adoption floor remains OPEN!

We have plenty of adorable cats and kittens waiting to meet you and find their forever homes. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, this is a wonderful time to come meet your new best friend. ❤️

Thank you for standing with us, trusting us, and continuing to support the animals who need us most. We’ll keep you updated as we move through this and will share any changes to our reopening plans.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. ❤️

Enjoy a stunning photo of Selket who will be available for adoption when we re-open dog adoptions.

UPDATE: ZOEY HAS BEEN ADOPTED

MEET ZOEY! 🐾💕☁️

8 pounds of pure fluff, sweetness, and cuteness! 🥹💗

Just look at that little face! 😍 Zoey is a 5-year-old West Highland Terrier-type who came to us because her previous family was downsizing. She is now looking for a new family to love! 🏡❤️

Zoey did great with our staff when she arrived and has received her microchip, basic vaccines, dewormer, and preventative care. She is a very happy and sweet little dog who is ready to meet her new people. 🥰

Zoey is reported to do well with other dogs, although she may not be the best match for highly active, large dogs. At just 8 pounds, this little girl is looking for a home where she can be a beloved companion and get plenty of attention. 💕

Zoey is not yet spayed, but we are working on getting her a spay appointment. A spay/neuter contract will need to be signed at adoption, as required by Virginia state law. Geographical adoption restrictions apply.

Zoey | 5 years old | 8 lbs | Female
Adoption fee: $45

If you’re interested in meeting this adorable little fluff ball, please come visit her at the shelter! Adoptions are first come, first served.

🐾 MEET FRIENDLY! 🐾

If you're looking for a dog who lives life at FULL SPEED, Friendly might just be your guy! 😂❤️

Friendly is a 2-year-old Pit Mix who came to us as a stray, and this boy has enough energy, personality, and enthusiasm to fill an entire room.
Everything is exciting to Friendly. Going outside? AMAZING. Seeing his friends? AMAZING. Getting the chance to run? THE BEST DAY EVER. 🏃‍♂️💨

Put Friendly in the yard and this boy turns into a complete track star. He loves stretching his legs and sprinting around like he's training for the Olympics! And when he gets the chance to play with another dog, Friendly is ready to enter the ring. 🤼😂

Friendly recently spent time playing with another male dog, and the two of them had an absolute blast wrestling and playing together. Friendly loves rough-and-rowdy play and happily wrestled with his buddy for a good time. Because he gets SO excited about playing, though, he'll need people who can help him take breaks and settle down before he completely wears himself out. This boy doesn't always know when it's time to clock out of the match! 😂

He did attempt to mount a few times during play, so continued work on appropriate play manners and interruptions when needed will be important. But underneath all that energy is an incredibly affectionate boy.

When Friendly first comes out of his kennel, his excitement can make it difficult for him to focus. Give him a few minutes to decompress, though, and his sweet side really starts to shine. He's been known to climb right into his handler's lap, soak up affection, and enthusiastically hand out kisses. 🥰

Friendly is still learning boundaries and basic manners, and he's definitely a jumper, so he's looking for an active, experienced home that is ready to continue his training with consistency and positive reinforcement. Because of his enthusiasm and tendency to jump, we'd recommend a home with older children, around 16 and up.

Friendly is also looking for a cat-free home. Cats were WAY too exciting for him at the shelter, and he showed a high level of interest in trying to get to them.

He does appear to enjoy other dogs, especially dogs who enjoy a playful, physical wrestling style, but introductions and play should be supervised to make sure everyone gets appropriate breaks.

Friendly also does well during baths! 🛁❤️

This boy isn't looking for a quiet life on the couch all day.
He's looking for adventures. He's looking for training. He's looking for someone to throw themselves into life with him—and maybe occasionally remind him that the wrestling match is over. 😂🐾

If you're ready for a goofy, athletic, affectionate best friend who will keep you moving and keep you laughing, come meet Friendly!

THE MOST ADORABLE LITTLE GUY YOU EVER DID SEE!

Meet Bruno, an approximately two-year old pittie/bully mix who was surrendered due to what was reported as a biting incident in his previous home. Since being in our care, he has shown us that he is an extremely wiggly, playfully mouthy (when super excited), little dude who is also submissive and eager to be your best friend no matter what.

Bruno has tested great with other dogs (pictured below with fellow adoptable Madonna) and would likely love another younger and/or playful pup to get his energy out. We don’t know how Bruno would do with kitties and older kids would likely be fine.

Bruno just needs someone committed to helping him channel his excitement in other, more ideal avenues and given how smart he is, we’ve no doubt this will be a breeze.

Bruno is neutered and his adoption fee is $45. Please visit the shelter at 26 Frosty Lane, Stafford, VA 22554 if interested in adoption.

Potential adopters will need to bring picture ID/and our something with a current address at time of adoption; adoption services conclude at 5PM and the shelter closes at 5:30.

Please share to help Bruno find his forever home!

UPDATE: SHE HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY AN AMAZING FAMILY ❤️

🐾 Brownie’s Incredible Journey (and why she needs YOU!) 🐾

Back in April, a sweet, young pup named Brownie arrived as a stray and was never reclaimed. Shelter life can be tough for a smart girl like her, and she was overlooked for months—until August, when she finally got adopted!

Then came the plot twist: just two weeks later, we got a call from a Solano County Deputy in California. Brownie had been found as a stray over 2,000 miles away! After we were unable to reach her adopters, the incredible team at Solano County worked tirelessly to arrange transport and bring Brownie all the way back home to us. We are beyond grateful for their dedication to her safety! ❤️

Brownie arrived back this morning and instantly barreled into our arms with pure joy. Now, it’s our turn to advocate for her and make sure she finds the loving family she deserves.

✨ Meet Brownie:

Personality: Goofy, sweet as her name implies, and loves hard!

Favorite Things: Playing fetch with tennis balls, tossing her toys around, hiking, and ending the day snuggled on the couch.

Dog Friendly: Passed meet-and-greets with flying colors (she even lived with a senior Pittie!).

Health: Spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated.

Brownie is looking for a dedicated companion or family ready for an adventure buddy and a total cuddle bug. Let's make sure her next journey is straight into your heart.

📩 Interested in adopting or fostering? Come visit her tomorrow at 11am!

Could I be your missing kitty? 🥺

📍 Found: Estate Row, 22554
🐱 Description: Large, approximately 11 lb, gray domestic shorthair with a white chest
🔎 Microchipped: Yes
🏠 No collar when found

Please share this post so we can help this handsome guy find his family!

If you recognize him or have information about his owner, please contact the shelter. ❤️

MAGGIE IS ON THE TRAIL OF A NEW HOME

Maggie is a six-year old redbone coonhound mix who was surrendered after an incident involving food in her previous home. According to her previous owner, Maggie made contact with a person’s face while excitedly going for a dropped French fry (she is a hound). Since arriving in our care, she has shown us a friendly, affectionate personality, and we have not observed any aggressive behavior.

Maggie has met a few dogs here at the shelter and will need some more socialization, but with time to acclimate, she should definitely come around. We do not know if she has been around cats.

Maggie is spayed, and her adoption fee is $45. The shelter is first-come, first-served and is closed today for deep-cleaning and training, and opens tomorrow at 11AM. We are located at 26 Frosty Lane, Stafford, VA 22554.

🌶️ Hi friends! It’s me, Franks Red Hot! 🐾

I heard the humans saying something about a panleuk situation, so I thought I’d give you all an important update from my perspective. 😉

The shelter is CLOSED TODAY, but it’s not because we’re going anywhere! Our humans are spending the day doing some very serious cleaning and making sure all of us cats are up to date on our vaccines. 🧼🫧💉

Last week, the shelter took in a cat who had been trapped outside and unfortunately tested positive for panleukopenia (panleuk). Because panleuk can be extremely contagious and dangerous for cats, our humans are taking every precaution they can to protect the cats already in their care and prevent exposing any new kitties.

The good news? The cats currently on the adoption floor were not exposed to, nor were they housed near, the panleuk-positive cat. ❤️

Our humans are also working to pause cat intakes for the next two weeks while they monitor, clean, vaccinate, and do everything possible to keep everyone safe.

But don’t worry… we aren’t closed for long! 🥳

🐶🐱 TOMORROW AT 11 AM, WE’LL BE BACK OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR ADOPTIONS!

And guess what?

We have SO. MANY. wonderful animals waiting to meet their people — cats, kittens AND dogs! 🐾❤️

So while the humans are busy scrubbing today, you can start making your adoption plans. 😉

Come see us tomorrow at 11 AM. One of us might just be your new best friend.

Love,
🌶️ Franks Red Hot
…and all of us waiting for our forever families ❤️🐾
