🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE SHELTER 🚨
Our community’s support means so much to us, and we want to be transparent with you about a precautionary step we are taking to protect the dogs in our care.
Effective immediately, our dog adoption floor will be temporarily closed. At this time, we plan to reopen on September 26, provided there are no additional positive cases.
Here’s what happened:
On Friday, one of the dogs in our care began showing symptoms. She initially tested negative for parvo at the shelter, but because of her symptoms, she was transported to Cladda for additional veterinary care. Their testing subsequently came back positive for parvo.
Because she had been in several areas of the shelter during the possible exposure period, we are taking every precaution. This means temporarily closing all dog areas, thoroughly deep cleaning potentially exposed spaces, and re-vaccinating dogs who are due or in need of a booster.
We are also temporarily pausing routine dog intakes for approximately two weeks. We know this is a difficult decision, and we do not take it lightly. While we work to get a handle on this situation, we want to be extremely cautious about bringing additional dogs into the facility and potentially increasing the risk of exposure.
We will continue to schedule dog intakes out as needed, and emergency situations will still be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to give the dogs currently in our care the safest environment possible while our team completes cleaning, monitoring, vaccination, and exposure protocols.
❤️ There is some really encouraging news.
The majority of the dogs currently in our care were vaccinated when they entered the shelter. Vaccination provides important protection against parvo, and we are hopeful that these precautions will help us get through this quickly and safely.
Our team is working incredibly hard right now—cleaning, disinfecting, reviewing exposures, monitoring the dogs closely, and doing everything we can to keep them healthy. We know a temporary closure is difficult, especially for the dogs who are waiting for their forever families, but the health and safety of the animals in our care has to come first.
We are asking our community for a little patience and a lot of support while we navigate this.
🐱 And the good news? Our cat adoption floor remains OPEN!
We have plenty of adorable cats and kittens waiting to meet you and find their forever homes. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, this is a wonderful time to come meet your new best friend. ❤️
Thank you for standing with us, trusting us, and continuing to support the animals who need us most. We’ll keep you updated as we move through this and will share any changes to our reopening plans.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. ❤️
