🇺🇸 National Preparedness Month — Week 2: Support Your Community

Prepared communities are built by prepared people who are willing to help their neighbors.

As we continue National Preparedness Month, Stafford Volunteer Fire Department wants to highlight an incredible resource right here in our community — the Stafford County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

CERT provides everyday citizens with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors when emergencies or disasters occur. Training includes disaster preparedness, basic medical operations, fire safety, utility controls, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, and more.

And now is a great opportunity to get involved!

🟢 Stafford County CERT Basic Course – Fall 2026

👥 Open to adults 18 and older
⏰ Registration Deadline: Friday, September 18

When emergencies stretch traditional response resources, trained community members can make a real difference. CERT is another example of how neighbors helping neighbors makes Stafford County stronger and more resilient.

You don’t have to wear a fire helmet to serve your community. Sometimes it starts with simply being willing to learn, prepare, and help.

National Preparedness Month — Week 2: Support Your Community 🚒🤝

Being prepared isn’t just about taking care of ourselves—it’s about looking out for one another.

For Week 2 of National Preparedness Month, Stafford Volunteer Fire Department is encouraging everyone to think beyond their own household and help build a stronger, more resilient community.

When an emergency impacts Stafford County, neighbors helping neighbors can make a tremendous difference.

🏠 Check on Your Neighbors — Know who around you may need extra assistance during an emergency, including older adults, individuals with disabilities, and those living alone.

🤝 Get Involved — Volunteer, participate in community programs, and learn about opportunities to help before, during, and after emergencies.

📢 Share Reliable Information — Help friends and family stay informed by sharing preparedness information and updates from trusted sources.

❤️ Build Community Resilience — Talk with your neighbors about emergency plans, available resources, and how you can support one another when it matters most.

Our firefighters and first responders will be there when you need us—but preparedness is a shared responsibility. The stronger and more connected our community is before an emergency, the better prepared we are to face it together.

🇺🇸 ONE WEEK TO GO | CLIMB TO REMEMBER 🇺🇸

We’re officially ONE WEEK AWAY from the 5th Annual Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb – Stafford County!

Next Sunday, September 13th, firefighters, first responders, families, friends, and members of our community will come together at Fred Nats Stadium to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

This year carries special meaning as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11. For 25 years, we have promised to Never Forget—and next weekend, we’ll keep that promise one step at a time.

🇺🇸 REMINDER | CLIMB TO REMEMBER – TUNNEL TO TOWERS 2026 🇺🇸

The Stafford Volunteer Fire Department is proud to once again support the 5th Annual Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb – Stafford County on Sunday, September 13th at Fred Nats Stadium.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we invite our members, families, friends, and community to join us in honoring the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to help others.

This climb is more than just a physical challenge. Every step is taken in remembrance of those who climbed the stairs of the World Trade Center knowing others were depending on them.

Whether you climb, volunteer, donate, or simply come out to support the participants, we hope you’ll join us in making sure their courage and sacrifice are never forgotten.

🚒 COMPANY 2 REPRESENTING! 🚒

Stafford Volunteer Fire Department is proud to recognize the dedicated volunteers who earned a spot among Stafford County Fire & Rescue’s Top Volunteer Hours for August 2026!

We’re especially proud that five of the Top 10 spots were filled by members of Stafford Volunteer Fire Department – Company 2:

🔥 Michael Hertel — 71 hours
🔥 Andrew Chubb — 65 hours
🔥 Jacob Mansoor — 64 hours
🔥 Mueez Chaudri — 59 hours
🔥 Whit Johnson — 54 hours

These hours represent much more than numbers on a report. They represent nights, weekends, time away from family, training, station staffing, and answering the call when our community needs us.

We greatly appreciate the dedication of these members and all of the volunteers throughout Stafford County who continue to give their time in service to others. Whether you made the Top 10 or contributed a few hours when you could, every hour volunteered makes a difference.

National Preparedness Month — Week 1: Recognize & Get Ready 🚒

September is National Preparedness Month, and Stafford Volunteer Fire Department is joining communities across the country in encouraging everyone to take simple steps now to be ready when an emergency happens.

Emergencies don’t always come with a warning. Severe weather, power outages, fires, flooding, and other unexpected events can quickly disrupt our normal routines. Preparedness starts before the emergency.

This week, take a few minutes with your family to:

🔹 Know Your Risks — Understand the emergencies most likely to affect your home, workplace, and community.
🔹 Make a Plan — Decide how your family will communicate, where you’ll meet, and what you’ll do if you need to evacuate.
🔹 Build a Kit — Have water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, first-aid supplies, and other essentials ready.
🔹 Stay Informed — Sign up for local emergency alerts and follow trusted sources for information.

Preparedness doesn’t have to be complicated. A little planning today can make a big difference when every second counts.

Throughout September, we’ll continue sharing information to help our community become safer, stronger, and better prepared.

🚒 SUPPORTING OUR VOLUNTEERS — BEHIND THE SCENES, BEYOND THE CALLS

When people think about volunteer firefighters, they often think about the calls we answer, the training we complete, and the hours we spend serving our community.

But one of the biggest hurdles we face as a volunteer organization is funding.

Who pays for our training? Our station uniforms? Station supplies? Equipment? Facility needs? And all the other expenses that come with keeping a volunteer fire department ready to serve?

Tonight, our President and Treasurer joined leadership from Stafford County’s other volunteer organizations at the Public Safety Center for training with the Stafford County Fire Rescue Financial Manager. The training focused on the financial procedures, responsibilities, and accountability necessary to properly manage the funds that support our volunteers.

Just like our operational training, the training behind the scenes never stops either.

Every donation, fundraiser, and show of community support helps us provide our members with the resources they need to train, respond, and serve.

We volunteer our time. We train to be ready. And when the tones drop, we’re there for our community.
