International Overdose Awareness Day is observed every August 31 to remember people lost to overdose, support those affected by substance use, reduce stigma, and encourage prevention.

Stafford County Fire and Rescue supports prevention by participating in the "Leave Behind" Program offering Narcan to friends and family of those at risk for overdose. Narcan is also available at Stafford County Parks locations in the first aid boxes.

Today is about remembrance, but it is also about hope. Overdose can be prevented. Recovery is possible. Asking for help can be the first step toward changing a life.
