🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to this country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, cookouts, and time off — it is a day to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who never returned home.

As a Marine and on behalf of Lioness Defense, I ask that we take a moment to remember the fallen and the families who continue carrying that sacrifice every day. The freedoms we enjoy were purchased at a price that many paid with their lives.

Remember the fallen. Honor the sacrifice. Live the legacy.

🚨New Bill: SB 749: Assault fi****ms & certain ammunition feeding devices; purchase, sale, etc., prohibited, penalties.🚨

There's a lot to digest here, so here is the quick down and dirty version. If this law takes effect:

Virginians can still keep many currently owned rifles/magazines they already legally possess.

But after July 1, 2026:

- Most new sales/transfers of many AR-style fi****ms inside Virginia would become illegal.

- Magazines over 15 rounds could no longer be bought/sold/transferred in Virginia.

- Violations would generally be misdemeanors, but they could temporarily remove firearm rights.

🚨 VA Gun Law Update: HB 217: Purchase, sale, transfer, etc., of assault fi****ms and certain ammunition feeding devices prohibited; penalties. 🚨

As of today, April 22, 2026, the General Assembly passed it by for the day, which means the governor’s amendment did not go through, and the bill goes back to the governor, who can still sign or veto it. The bill is still active.

This is the bill that would ban the future purchase, sale, transfer, import, and manufacture of certain fi****ms defined as “assault fi****ms,” plus certain ammunition feeding devices, and restrict magazines that hold more than 15 rounds, while generally leaving lawfully owned items grandfathered.

Buckle Up Butter Cups!!

🚨 VA Gun Law Deep Dive: HB 217 (H2 Substitute – What It REALLY Says)🚨

Status: Governor's Recommendation (still making its way through the House and has been submitted with revisions)

Summary: This substitute bill creates **new criminal penalties** and a **detailed legal definition of “assault firearm”**, while allowing limited exceptions and grandfathering.

🔴 Core Prohibition

It becomes a **Class 1 misdemeanor** to:
➡️ Import, sell, manufacture, purchase, or transfer an “assault firearm.”

🔴 3-Year Firearm Ban After Conviction

If convicted under this law:
➡️ You **cannot possess, purchase, or transport ANY firearm for 3 years**
➡️ After 3 years, rights are restored **unless another disqualifier exists**

🔴 Definition of “Assault Firearm” (KEY CHANGE)

This is where the bill has the biggest impact:

**Magazine Threshold:**
➡️ Semi-auto rifle OR pistol with **over 15 rounds = “assault firearm”**

🔴 Feature-Based Firearm Definitions

**Rifles:**
Semi-auto + detachable magazine + **ONE feature** = included
• Folding/telescoping stock
• Pistol grip or thumbhole stock
• Forward/second grip
• Threaded barrel (for muzzle devices/suppressors)
• Gr***de launcher

**Pistols:**
Semi-auto + **TWO features** = included
• Magazine outside the grip
• Threaded barrel
• Barrel shroud
• Second grip
• Brace/buffer tube allowing shoulder fire

**Shotguns:**
Included if they have:
• Folding/telescoping stock
• Detachable magazine
• More than 15-round capacity
• Or similar tactical features

**Also Included:**
• Shotguns with revolving cylinders
• Fi****ms that accept **belt-fed ammo**
• Fi****ms modified into the above configurations

🟢 What is NOT Included

• Antique fi****ms
• Permanently inoperable fi****ms
• Bolt-action, pump, lever, or slide-action fi****ms

🔴 Magazine Ban (UPDATED TO 15 ROUNDS)

Large capacity = **more than 15 rounds**
Illegal to **import, sell, transfer, or purchase**
➡️ Penalty: Class 1 misdemeanor

🟢 Grandfathering + Allowed Actions

If you owned it **before July 1, 2026**, you generally can:

✔️ Keep it
✔️ Transfer to **immediate family** (spouse, kids, parents, siblings, grandparents)
✔️ Sell to a dealer (FFL)
✔️ Sell/transfer **out of state**
✔️ Leave it as an inheritance
✔️ Take it to a gunsmith / get it serviced

---

🔴 Who Is Exempt

• Military (under orders)
• Law enforcement
• Certain federal/contracted security personnel
• Licensed dealers (FFLs) for authorized transfers

🔥 What This Means for You:

**15 rounds is now the line**
➡️ Many standard magazines and common fi****ms fall into this category

This is NOT just a rifle bill
➡️ It directly impacts **handguns, AR-style platforms, and some shotguns**

You may **keep what you own**, BUT:
➡️ Your ability to **sell, transfer, or move it is heavily restricted**

Even a misdemeanor conviction =
➡️ **3-year total loss of firearm rights**

The definition is **feature-based**, meaning:
➡️ Small modifications can determine whether your firearm is legal or restricted.

🚨 VA Gun Law Update: HB 40: Manufacture, importation, sale, transfer, or possession of plastic fi****ms and unfinished frames or receivers and unserialized fi****ms prohibited; penalties. 🚨

Important Dates:
Restrictions on manufacturing/sales → Effective January 1, 2027
Possession restrictions → Effective July 1, 2027

HB 40 cracks down on undetectable and unserialized fi****ms in Virginia:

❌ Plastic / Undetectable Fi****ms
Making, selling, importing, or possessing fi****ms that can’t be detected by standard security measures (like X-rays)
➡️ Class 5 Felony

❌ Unserialized Fi****ms & Frames (“Ghost Guns”)
Possessing, buying, selling, or transferring fi****ms, frames, or receivers without a valid serial number =
➡️ Class 1 Misdemeanor (upgraded to Class 4 Felony for repeat offenses)

👉🏾 What this means for you:
If you own or plan to build fi****ms, serialization and compliance will be critical. This law significantly increases penalties and enforcement around so-called “ghost guns.”

📣 Stay informed. Stay compliant. Stay ready.
