The Town of Stafford would like to notify residents that milling and paving operations on Hampden Rd will be starting next week. Milling is scheduled to begin May 13 and continue through the week. Paving operations are scheduled to begin the following week, starting May 19.

Due to the narrow roadway widths on portions of Hampden Road, sections of Hampden Road will be closed to through traffic during construction operations. Access will be limited to local residents and deliveries only.

This will include:
• Between Tetrault Rd and Route 190
• Between Tetrault Rd Road and the end of Hampden Road near Spencer

❄️ Snow Removal Reminder – Sidewalks & Fire Hydrants ❄️

A quick reminder to Stafford property owners:

Enforcement actions will begin tomorrow.

Under Town Ordinance §7-4, property owners are responsible for clearing:

• Abutting sidewalks
• Snow and ice around abutting fire hydrants

Snow and ice must be removed within 24 hours after the end of snowfall.

For fire hydrants, please clear a minimum 3-foot radius around the hydrant, and clear a path to the street so emergency crews can access it quickly if needed.

Keeping hydrants and sidewalks clear is critical for pedestrian safety and emergency response access.

Failure to comply may result in:
• A $50 fine for each 24-hour period the sidewalk or hydrant remains uncleared
• The Town clearing the area at the property owner’s expense
• Potential lien placement if costs are not reimbursed

If needed, property owners may appeal an order or fine by contacting the Selectmen’s Office to request a hearing.

We understand winter storms can be challenging. Your help in keeping sidewalks passable and hydrants accessible makes a real difference for neighbors, first responders, and DPW crews.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Stafford safe.

❄️ STAFFORD STORM UPDATE – 3:30 PM MONDAY 2.23.26 ❄️

Well… we made it. After all the buildup, this one turned out to be a little less dramatic than advertised. We’ll take boring over chaos any day.

Crews will continue working until approximately 8:00 PM tonight to fully open roads and apply material where needed. They will return at 4:00 AM to address any areas that need attention ahead of the morning commute.

The parking ban remains in effect through tomorrow morning.

Around midnight, a small crew will be consolidating snow on Main Street, similar to our last storm. Please keep vehicles off Main Street so this work can be completed safely and efficiently.

Schools will be closed tomorrow to allow additional time for parking lots to be cleared and for sight lines to be improved to ensure the safety of students and staff. The Town will continue working on sight lines throughout the week as time allows. We are also monitoring the potential for additional weather events later this week and will adjust operations as needed.

A reminder to residents: it is illegal to push snow into or across a town or state road. Doing so creates hazardous conditions and slows down operations.

We are very fortunate this storm did not turn out to be what it could have been. While forecasts called for a more severe event, Stafford was prepared regardless.

Thank you to our residents for staying home and giving crews room to work. A big thank you as well to all departments involved for their collaboration and teamwork.

If there is an area of concern you would like us to address, please feel free to submit a Public Works request through the Town website. We will get to it as soon as we can.

❄️ STAFFORD STORM UPDATE MONDAY 7:30AM ❄️

Crews just came off a short break and are back out working town-wide. Visibility is reduced, with sustained winds around 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. Conditions remain challenging.

Overall, operations are going well, but travel remains very dangerous. Snow continues to fall, and roads can quickly become snow-covered again after being plowed.

At this time, we have zero reported power outages in Stafford.... knock on wood. We are continuing to monitor conditions closely.

Help us help you- Message from our Police Department
• It is illegal to plow snow onto a town or state road.
• All drivers are required to remove snow and ice from their vehicles, including windows and roofs, before traveling.
• If you must go out, reduce your speed and drive according to road conditions.

The town-wide parking ban remains in effect through Tuesday morning. Vehicles left on the roadway may be ticketed and towed.

We strongly encourage residents to stay home unless travel is absolutely necessary. Giving crews room to work makes a difference.

❄️ STAFFORD STORM UPDATE – 11:30 PM ❄️

Here’s a look at current road conditions tonight.

At this hour, wind speeds are underperforming earlier projections, which is good news. However, snowfall is on track and in some areas may be coming down a bit heavier than expected.

As rates begin to exceed 1 to 2 inches per hour, travel will quickly become very dangerous. When snowfall reaches those levels, plows cannot keep up. Roads will snow over rapidly, and visibility will drop.

Please stay home and allow our crews the space and time they need to do their job. The safest place to be overnight is off the roads.

If this 11:30 PM storm update is the most exciting thing happening in your night, I apologize. You should probably go to bed. We’ll still be out here when you wake up. 😂

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
