Thanks to the Washington Post's READ IN mailing for this reminder:

"On Sunday, Election Day will be 100 days away. Now is the appropriate time for everyone to panic."

How will YOU demonstrate your panic?

Voter Fraud NOT

FB asks, "What have you been up to?"

Well...I've been reading more and more about states putting barriers in the way of voters and would-be voters. Some seem to be focused on the young, others on racial/ethnic minorities, others on just anyone who is not in the in-group. See, e.g.

Many, if not most, of the restrictive laws are based on the purported need to fight VOTER FRAUD. But, as I have argued in the past--here and in my classes--the fears of voter fraud are greatly over blown. So, here comes my next favorite read: a compilation of recent studies largely dismissing the boogey-man of voter fraud. (I wonder, though, if these studies will convert anyone but the choir.)

It's well worth a look!

Wikipedia even

Its pretty cool for St. Mary's to be listed there with just a few big media polls

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryland_gubernatorial_election,_2014

The 2014 Maryland gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014, to elect the Governor of Maryland. Incumbent Democratic Governor Martin O'Malley is term-limited and cannot run for re-election to a third consecutive term.

ABC news:

(They picked up Professor Todd Eberly's article on the poll originally written for the Maryland Reporter. Its also on Eberly's FreeStater Blog.)

http://www.abc2news.com/news/political/analysis-new-poll-confirms-no-one-cares-about-race-for-md-governor

The inaugural Maryland Poll from St. Mary’s College of Maryland surveyed the political landscape heading into the 2014 primary election and found that most Marylanders have absolutely no preference when it comes to the candidates for governor.

04/22/2014

The first Maryland Poll is a done deal! We found Brown with 27% and Gansler with 11% (16 point spread). At the same time, the Gansler campaign published an internal poll claiming that the momentum had turned their way with the spread down to 9 points. That’s 1) why we generally don’t pay much attention to internal campaign polls and 2) a good example as to why Marylanders need our services. The trend seems to be that both candidates are losing ground and more are becoming undecided in the Democratic camp – so it appears that Marylanders are not receptive to the races turn toward negative campaigning.

The Maryland Poll (MPoll) is a research and teaching project of political science Professor Susan Grogan, St. Mary's College of Maryland.
