Join Some Things Must Be Heard: Spitting & Politicking for the We Are Each Other’s Harvest Block & Build Cultural Organizing Gathering.

We are gathering artists, organizers, healers, spiritual strategists, memory workers, narrative leaders, and everyone who is willing to confront and block far-right attacks on Black communities and Black youth in St. Louis.

Together, we will co-create a powerful cultural intervention designed to shift hearts and minds from apathy, isolation, and distraction into deep connection, active engagement, and collective belonging.

We are living in a time where the distant between care and connection is severed by cellphones and social media.

The same bullets that shot Baby Kohen Riley Shot 3 teenagers in St. Louis Country. We know all too well that “FIRE WORKS”

Continuing from An Artist Duty and Expanding into COLLECTIVE ACCOUNTABILITY..

We are each other’s
harvest:
we are each other’s
business:
we are each other’s
magnitude and bond. ~ Gwendolyn Brooks.

Intentional, intergenerational, work that understand intersectionality. If we are to get free we must, WE MUST understand, acknowledge, and accept that it will take all of us to defeat the “ ENEMIES” White Supremacy, Capitalism, Colonialism, Sexism, Homophobia, Transphobia, Ableism, Ageism and Racism, and Fascism.

We cannot afford to throw each other away. The cost is too HIGH.

Deep Bow to everyone who joined us for the inaugural Long Live the Dragon Black August 2 Day Convening. From 10 am - 5 pm we studied, practiced, skilled up, connected, laughed, cried, and assess our individual and collective roles in the struggle for liberation.

There is a dragon that lives inside of each one of us and it’s our responsibility to make space for it.

Grateful for these two brilliant, creative, revolutionary beings. The Long Live the Dragon Black August Convening Day 1 was exactly what it was supposed to be because of their presence, intentionality and love for the people.

Thank you both for being who you are.

STMBH: Cultural Organizer Tau Adwin led the Sacred Agency Poe-litical Education Workshop at the Black August Convening and the attendees created poetry that had depth, density, and meaning. The impact was felt long after the workshop ended. They created individual and collective offerings that derived from their own sacred agency.

This workshop weaves together poetry, political education, deep self-reflection, collective dialogue, and revolutionary thought to empower participants in exploring identity, voice, personal and collective agency, and Black liberation.

We believe that the spirit of creativity and imagination flows through every revolutionary who dares to envision a world of true freedom and strives toward it. Through a guided spoken word experience and structured prompts, attendees will link an element of their identity to the themes within the piece, drawing from their own sacred spaces and sharing their insights with the collective.

STMBH: SPITTING & POLITICKING would like thank Restorative Justice Movement - St. Louis for presenting at our Inaugural Long Live the Dragon Black August Convening. Their workshop Black August: Our History, Our Future: Remembrance, Resistance, and Restorative Justice was Led by Amber Harris co–founder of Restorative Justice Movement Center.

We are extremely thankful for the work they are doing in the community and the environment they’ve created for people who have been impacted by incarceration, substance use, mental health, and displacement.

We don’t just convene for convening sake. We convene to educate, inform, and organize to build the people power we need to abolish jails, prisons, and police. We convene to connect theory to action. We convene to create spaces where people can feel into their humanity, their anger, their creativity, and their rage so we can take collective action.

We can’t not talk about Black August and not discuss what is happening in our local jails and prisons. Having a Black August Activation and not highlighting the fact that people are dying in your own community is disrespectful to the tenets of Black August and it’s origin.. Black August was and is central to the prison movement, political prisoners, and prisoners of the political machine. Pretrial Detention/ Jail is part of the Prison Industrial Complex.

We thank our Coaliton partners Freedom Community Center for doing what they have always done by prioritizing the people, connecting with the people, and amplifying the stories of the people who are directly impacted by the jails neglect.

If it’s our duty to fight for our freedom then we must know acknowledge that people are currently incarcerated fighting for their lives.
