If there is no raise, that does not mean you should deliberately slow down, refuse assigned work, or violate your performance plan. But you also don’t have to routinely give management free labor.
For an SSA employee, a smart approach is:
* Work your scheduled hours.
* Perform your assigned duties professionally.
* Take your entitled breaks and leave.
* Don’t routinely work before/after your tour without authorization and compensation.
* Don’t sacrifice your personal time to compensate for chronic understaffing.
* If the workload cannot reasonably be completed during your tour, document it and notify management.
* If management expects work outside your tour, involve the union.
