In celebration of Pride Month, join Miranda Rectenwald, curator of local history, for an exploration of the often overlooked 1986 court case D.C. & M.S. v. City of St. Louis. Learn how this landmark case expanded freedoms for hundreds of people in St. Louis and left a lasting impact on the community. WashU Libraries is helping preserve St. Louis media history by archiving print issues of the Riverfront Times (1977–2013) in Special Collections. Following the paper’s closure, Miranda Rectenwald, curator of local history, worked to save and preserve decades of local reporting, arts, and community coverage, keeping this important record of St. Louis history accessible for future research.

The papers of poet, novelist, writer, and illustrator Russell Edson are now available for research in the Julian Edison Department of Special Collections at WashU Libraries.

The collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, drafts, publications, and artwork documenting Edson’s influential literary career and creative process.

The Russell Edson Papers document Edson's entire writing life. The collection includes published and unpublished poems and other materials.

After more than 60 years as a beloved study space and hub for music scholarship, the Ga***rd Music Library is closing its doors this week. The library leaves behind a rich legacy of rare collections, historic architecture, and generations of WashU memories.

Every part of Ga***rd Music Library’s comprehensive collection of music books, scores, sound recordings, videos & DVDs, and research collections will remain accessible. Once relocation is complete, music collections will be housed in Olin Library, West Campus, and Special Collections.

The Ga***rd Music Library will close in May 2026 after sixty-six years. Completed in 1960, the library was a significant milestone in WashU’s growth and has since served as the focal point for the preservation, understanding, and study of music history and material culture.
