June 19, 1865 marks the day when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free .

2.5 years after the emancipation proclamation.

The emancipation proclamation was issued January 1, 1863, but it wasn’t enforced in Texas until Union troops arrived on June 19th 1865.

Juneteenth honors black resilience, freedom, and the ongoing fight for justice and equality.

This past weekend, our community defense neighborhood groups got together to spend some time in community and to share all the work they've been doing to protect their neighbors. From getting Flock out of their neighborhoods to getting local schools to adopt a safety plan, these groups have carried community defense work in our region forward.

It is not a coincidence that the most powerful community defense networks are built block by block. The neighborhood is central to political, social, and civic life, and these groups remind us of that.

El fin de semana pasado, nuestros grupos vecinales de defensa comunitaria se reunieron para pasar un tiempo juntos y compartir todo el trabajo que han estado realizando para proteger a sus vecinos. Desde lograr la expulsión de Flock de sus barrios hasta conseguir que las escuelas locales adopten un plan de seguridad, estos grupos han impulsado la labor de defensa comunitaria en nuestra región.

No es casualidad que las redes de defensa comunitaria más poderosas se construyan cuadra por cuadra. El vecindario ocupa un lugar central en la vida política, social y cívica, y estos grupos nos lo recuerdan.

As AANHPI Heritage Month comes to a close, we're holding deep gratitude for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities we have the honor of serving and standing alongside.

This month — and every month — we're fighting for AANHPI immigrants who deserve to be seen, heard, and represented. That work is the point.

Last night Harmony hosted MICA Project’s strategy meeting to make our neighborhoods safe and welcoming for everyone. By the end of meeting, concrete plans were made for locations in the city, county and St. Charles. Exciting to see how the Spirit of justice moves amongst the people. Last Thursday, MICA & ACLU of Missouri held a strategy meeting for our Ending Police-to-ICE Pipeline Campaign!

Attendees were connected with other people from their neighborhoods and left with concrete plans of action to end police collaboration with ICE in their community.
