The big splash of the 4th may be over, but the County Council has declared all of July as a month to celebrate America's semi-quincentennial.

At the beginning of the month, we placed 250 flags in Memorial Park in Clayton, as well as a special America 250 flag commemorating the 250th Anniversary of our country's Declaration of Independence.

The Council and I encourage all St. Louis Countians to use this month to educate themselves and their children on our founding, honor the sacrifice of the brave colonists who fought for this new nation, and celebrate the freedom, unity and resilience we enjoy as Americans.

𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐒𝐫. 𝐓𝐚𝐱 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐳𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝

I and others on the council heard from so many people who were not able to access the county's online application and renewal system for the Senior Tax Freeze in the last two weeks that we knew some relief was needed. I was able to get an extension of the filing deadline passed by emergency order last night.

The Saint Louis County Council has passed an emergency order regarding the Senior Tax Freeze program implemented by the County Department of Revenue. Residents have experienced computer glitches and other software issues that made it impossible to apply or renew existing applications for the Senior Tax Freeze program before the 2026 deadline.

The emergency order authorized the Department of Revenue to extend the deadline for both new and renewal applications from June 30th through close of business on July 10th. This applies to both online and in-person applications.

𝙎𝙪𝙡𝙥𝙝𝙪𝙧 𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙤𝙖𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙅𝙪𝙡𝙮.

This project which includes pavement, curb ramp replacements, sidewalk repairs, Accessible Pedestrian Signal installation and new curb ramps will start July 2026 and expected to be completed in Spring 2027. Residents who live along Sulphur Spring should be receiving a letter from the TPW department providing more details and contact information for questions. Please be patient with road crews as work progresses.

APPLICATION DEADLINE TODAY for Youth Advisory Council.

Do you have an interest in government operations? Are you a student between the ages of 14-22 who wants their voice to be heard on issues important to today's youth? If you think you might have a future in public service and want to demonstrate your commitment to the pursuit of that goal to colleges or future employers, then the county's Youth Advisory Council may be the perfect opportunity for you.

The YAC meets monthly and produces an annual report. Participants receive a $600 stipend at the end of their year's service.
