We are honored to announce that the Kirkwood Fire Department has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the 2026 Mission: Lifeline® EMS Bronze Achievement Award.

This award recognizes our commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based emergency cardiac and stroke care to the residents and visitors of our community. Through the dedication of our firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and healthcare partners, we strive every day to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time when seconds matter most.

This recognition reflects the hard work and professionalism of our personnel and our ongoing focus on improving patient outcomes through excellence in prehospital emergency medical services.

As this is our first year participating in the Mission: Lifeline program, we are proud to have achieved Bronze status and are already working toward Gold recognition in the years ahead.

Thirty years on the job. Thirty years of answering the bell for Kirkwood.

Kirkwood Fire Department is proud to recognize one of our own -- Engineer Jim Sommer -- for three decades of service to this department and this community.

Thirty years of training, readiness, and showing up. Thirty years of taking the seat, checking the rig, and standing ready for whatever the next tone brings. The kind of career that's built one shift at a time, alongside a crew that becomes family.

Jim, thank you for your skill, your steadiness, and your dedication to the people of Kirkwood. It's an honor to serve alongside you.

🎓 Congratulations to our 2026 Scholarship Recipient, Samantha Rochleau!

Samantha will be attending University of Missouri this fall, where she plans to pursue a degree in Business. We are proud to support her educational journey and wish her continued success as she begins this exciting new chapter.

⚽🏆 CHAMPIONS 🏆⚽

A big congratulations to Kirkwood firefighters Eldin Kandzetovic, Kory Kohlmann, and Sydni Stevens for representing our department in the STL Guns N’ Hoses Soccer Cup and helping Team Red bring home the championship trophy!

The event brings together firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and law enforcement officers from across the region for a great cause, raising money for The BackStoppers and the families of fallen first responders.

It’s always great to see our members representing Kirkwood outside of emergency responses and community events. Even better when they come home with a championship trophy.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for supporting such an important mission.

This week, members of your Kirkwood Fire Department participated in Trench Rescue Certification, establishing critical skills used during some of the most dangerous and technical rescue incidents we face.

Crews trained on trench stabilization, shoring systems, victim access, and coordinated rescue operations in confined and unstable environments. Training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively when every second counts.

Great work by everyone involved and thank you to Firefighters of Frontenac for hosting and MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute for making the training a success.

Crews responded this week to a reported smoke in an apartment caused by a small appliance.

Crews arrived quickly, located the source of the smoke, and ensured the situation was contained before it could extend beyond the apartment of origin.

One furry resident also needed assistance and was safely rescued from the unit by responding crews and reunited with its owner.

Great work by all responding personnel for a quick, controlled response and for protecting both residents and pets. 🐈🚒

The Kirkwood Fire Department announces the retirement of Fire Marshal Robert Sumpter, effective June 1, 2026 . Fire Marshal Sumpter was first appointed to the Kirkwood Fire Department on May 17, 1996 and served the citizens and community of Kirkwood for 30 years.

The Kirkwood Fire Department has planned an official ceremony that will take place on June 10, 2026 at 08:00 am @ Kirkwood Fire Station #1, 137 W. Argonne. A reception will follow directly after the ceremony. All are welcome to attend. Thank you for your leadership and dedication to the fire department. We wish you well in retirement!
