He brings extensive experience and knowledge to the role, having previously served as a Fire Marshal in St. Charles County. We’re excited to have Pete on board and know he’ll be a great asset in elevating fire safety for our department and our community.

Kirkwood Fire Department crews recently worked with staff at Kirkwood High School to provide hands-on training with the school’s evacuation chair.

Evacuation chairs are designed to safely move individuals who may need assistance down stairs during an emergency when elevators cannot be used. Training like this gives school staff the opportunity to practice using the equipment before it’s ever needed in a real emergency.

We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside our schools and help keep students, staff, and visitors safe.

One eastbound lane of Big Bend is open. Both westbound lanes are still closed.

Big Bend Road is currently closed between Marshall Road and Couch Avenue.

Drivers should avoid the area and use an alternate route. Please allow extra time for travel and use caution while traveling near the closure.

Today, your Kirkwood Firefighters trained with the Arizona Vortex, a versatile artificial high directional used in technical rescue operations. The Vortex allows crews to build safe, reliable rope systems when traditional anchor points are unavailable or impractical.

Technical rescue incidents are infrequent, but when they occur, they demand a high level of skill and precision. Regular hands-on training like this ensures our firefighters are ready to respond safely, efficiently, and effectively when our community needs us most.

The training never stops because preparedness saves lives.

C crew spent time today on the pump panel, working on water supply, master stream operations, and nozzle control. These hands-on drills reinforce the fundamentals, build confidence, and ensure we’re prepared to deliver when our community needs us most.

Every training evolution is another investment in providing a safe, effective, and professional response.

Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Dustin LaPak on completing 5 years of service with the Kirkwood Fire Department. In keeping with the KFD tradition, Dustin received his name badge today from Chief Silvernail.

🐾 FOUND DOG 🐾

This sweet little dog was found near Kirkwood Fire Station 3 and is safe.

The dog is currently being cared for at the Kirkwood Police Department while we work to locate its owner.

**1590 is back in Service**

If you have been down by Firehouse #1 and noticed a different looking piece of apparatus in the bay. It was because one of ours was out of service for some repairs.

That is the neat thing about the Fire service. Not only do we work together on scenes, we are there for each other when equipment goes down. Thank you to the Frontenac Fire Department for letting us use your Back up fire truck for the past couple weeks while ours was getting repaired.

This Brotherhood/Sisterhood makes it possible to still be able to provide the best possible care for the citizens of our community and those visiting our great city. 🧑‍🚒🚒🚨
