Grief can start long before goodbye.

The loss that comes with dementia doesn’t wait until a loved one passes to be felt. You may no longer be able to talk about the things you used to, make decisions together in the same way, or rely on each other as you once did.

That kind of loss can be felt while you’re still sharing everyday moments with the person you love, and that can be hard to explain to people who haven’t lived it.

This is often called Anticipatory Grief. It’s more than just grief that starts early. It can show up as sadness, fear, and anger. It can mean lying awake at night thinking about what’s changing, losing your appetite, pulling away from friends, or feeling guilty for grieving the changes in someone who is still here.

No two people experience it the same way, but that doesn’t mean you have to go through it alone. If you or someone you know could use support navigating the changes and loss that come with dementia, our team is here 💙

What happens when you can no longer make decisions for yourself?

It’s a question no one wants to think about. But for families facing dementia, it can become a reality sooner than expected.

Who will make medical decisions on your behalf? Who will manage your finances? Do the people closest to you know what you want?

August is National Make-A-Will Month, and a will is one way to plan for what happens after you're gone. It can help outline how you want your assets distributed, name the people you trust to carry out your wishes, provide for the people you love, and even leave a lasting gift to a cause that matters to you.

A will is just one piece of planning ahead. Powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives can help address what happens if you're unable to make or communicate important decisions.

During our Dementia Navigation visits, we help families understand the many pieces of planning for the future, from healthcare decisions and powers of attorney to wills, trusts, and more. When additional legal guidance is needed, we can also connect families with trusted elder law and estate planning attorneys throughout the region.

Because when dementia brings uncertainty, having a plan can bring a little more clarity to what comes next.

Today is International Self-Care Day, a reminder that taking care of yourself isn't selfish.

If you're caring for someone living with dementia, self-care may look different than a spa day or a quiet afternoon. Sometimes it's accepting help, taking a short walk, stepping outside for a few deep breaths, or simply giving yourself permission to rest.

You can't pour from an empty cup, and caring for yourself helps you continue caring for the person you love.

Be kind to yourself today. Even a few minutes can make a difference. 💙

🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from Memory Care Home Solutions 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate independence, community, and the freedoms we value most.

At Memory Care Home Solutions, we’re especially mindful that for many of the families we serve independence is found in the small moments, staying at home safely, recognizing a loved one, sharing a laugh, or simply feeling supported.

As you enjoy the fireworks, barbecues, and time with loved ones, we recognize that holidays can be difficult for families living with dementia, and for the caregivers who support them every day.

Wishing you a safe, meaningful, and connected Independence Day!

Today may have officially marked the end of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month but for the families we serve, navigating dementia is a daily reality.

At Memory Care Home Solutions, we are committed to improving dignity and quality of life for people living with dementia and their caregivers by turning proven strategies into practical, real-world solutions at home.

As we carry this conversation forward, here are 3 areas where small, actionable strategies can make a meaningful difference:
-Creating a Safer Home Environment: Simple adjustments to routines and living spaces can reduce stress, lower fall risk, and support independence.
-Navigating Communication & Changes: As dementia progresses, learning special techniques can help to better understanding, reduce frustration, and improve daily interactions.
-Prioritizing Caregiver Well-Being: Personalized trainings, coping tools, and community resources can help prevent burnout and build confidence in the caregiver role.

You do not have to navigate this journey alone. Our team is here to provide individualized education and support to help families face dementia with greater stability and dignity.

Let's keep the conversation going all year long!
