The CWE Business Community Improvement District (NCID) was formed in 2010 in accordance with the Community Improvement District Act, a Missouri statute. The mission of the NCID is to enhance the District and the businesses it represents through a combination of physical improvements and promotional activities. Activities of the NCID are made financially possible through a 1 percent retail sales ta

x within the district, situated along the North Euclid Avenue commercial corridor from Lindell Boulevard to Washington Boulevard. Revenue is used to fund projects which include but are not limited to: advertising, branding, special events, street landscaping, cleaning, public improvements and maintenance. The overwhelming approval of this tax represents a long-term commitment by the residents and merchants in the district, as the special tax will be in place for a period of 10 years. The activities of the NCID are guided by a Board of Directors, which is comprised of business and commercial property owners throughout the district. The board acts as both ambassadors and active promoters of the area and its offerings. In addition to this governance group, the NCID meets with the stakeholders to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, voicing of concerns and collaboration on efforts between the merchants and community.

Straub's Markets has announced the closing of its CWE location on or around Sept. 25. We are sorry to see a longtime anchor of the neighborhood close. We thank them for all they have contributed to the Central West End over the years.

Straub’s has been a valued part of life in the CWE for several decades, and its presence will be missed by resident, visitors and businesses alike. We wish the Straub’s team all the best and hope to see a new chapter for this important neighborhood space soon.

The Central West End has always been a neighborhood with character and that character continues to evolve.

Today, you’ll find a mix of longtime residents, new neighbors, young creatives, families, and visitors all bringing something different to the neighborhood. From new places to gather and explore to the local favorites that have been part of CWE for years, there’s room for what’s next without losing what makes this place special.

Here’s to a neighborhood that keeps growing, while staying rooted in the people who call it home.

What’s one thing you’ve noticed changing or staying the same in CWE?

It’s the coffee shop you linger in a little longer. The restaurant you stumbled upon and now can’t stop thinking about. The boutique you didn’t plan to visit. The patio where happy hour turns into dinner. The familiar faces, beautiful streets and unexpected moments in between.

In the Central West End, you don’t have to go far to find something worth experiencing.

Because here, the neighborhood isn’t just the backdrop — it’s part of the story.

What’s your CWE moment? Tell us the place, the memory, or the little moment that keeps you coming back. 🤍
