Louis is a County Office under the Statutes of the State of Missouri. Louis is the only City within the State that acts as its own County. The position of the License Collector is held by a City-wide elected official. Mavis T. Thompson, Esq. , the current License Collector, was sworn into Office on Monday, October 14th 2913. Most business operating or located within the City must obtain a business
license every fiscal year. The City offers numerous license types, each of which is associated with a fee. All revenue collected by the License Collector’s Office is then distributed to the appropriate agencies, including the City’s general fund, which pays for the City’s police and fire departments, public safety, streets and all other City services. The License Collector’s Office is divided into four main departments: Manufacturing, Finance, Field Service, and Municipal. The efforts of these four departments combine to produce over $50,000,000 annually in revenue.
