What to do if your vehicle catches fire on the road 🚗🔥
Vehicle fires move fast—and knowing what to do in those first few critical seconds can save lives. If you see smoke or flames coming from your vehicle while driving:
1. Pull over safely: Signal immediately and move to the right shoulder or off the highway if possible. Turn off the ignition to stop the flow of fuel.
2. Get everyone out: Exit the vehicle immediately. Do NOT try to retrieve personal belongings.
3. Move far away & stay safe: Stand well clear of the vehicle and off the roadway (behind guardrails if available). Never stand in traffic or behind a burning vehicle.
4. Call 911 (tel:911) immediately: Give the dispatcher your exact location, highway direction, and nearest mile marker or exit.
As you can see in this clip, our crew arrived on scene, stretched lines, and put water on the fire within seconds to minimize danger and clear the highway safely.
