This summer, Beasley Elementary School received a complete Heating, Ventilation and Cooling system replacement, while Bierbaum Elementary School and Mehlville High School underwent partial replacements. Upgrades included replacing both rooftop and classroom units. This work will help to ensure students are comfortable and focused on learning in their classrooms, regardless of the temperature outside.

These were the final projects in a plan approved by the Mehlville Board of Education in March 2024 to update HVAC systems at schools across the district. At the time, many of the district’s HVAC systems were 20-30 years old. The typical life cycle of an HVAC system is 15-20 years. Aging HVAC systems can lead to costly repairs and disruptions to learning with students having to move to different areas of their school to stay cool or warm.

With the completion of this work, all of the district’s HVAC systems are now 10 years old or newer.

When the Facilities Steering Committee toured school last year, the group of parents, staff members and community members recommended upgrading co-curricular facilities, including our elementary school playgrounds.

We’re excited to share that construction is now complete on a new playground at Trautwein Elementary School! In addition to upgrading the equipment, fencing was also added to make the playground safer for the students and community members who use it.

Point Elementary School also received a playground upgrade this summer. Before this work, Point and Trautwein had the two oldest playgrounds in the Mehlville School District.

Students and staff returned to safer school campuses with improved learning spaces as a result of summer construction projects in the Mehlville School District.

Some of the work included the final HVAC projects in a plan approved by the Mehlville Board of Education in 2024, as well as the final projects using Prop S funds approved by the Mehlville School District community in 2021. It also included roof work funded through Prop A, which voters approved in 2025.

However, the majority of the projects were recommended by the district’s Facilities Steering Committee. The group of parents, staff members and community members met throughout the 2025-2026 school year, touring schools and developing a list of the most important projects at each school in the district.

Recommendations included site improvements, safety and security updates, revamped instructional spaces, restroom modernization, and updates for co-curricular spaces. Nearly every school in the Mehlville School District received updates this summer or has updates planned for the near future.
