To honor Andy, please wear a life jacket when boating to increase your chances of surviving carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Boaters should use a marine CO detector, seat children in the forward-most seating on a boat, avoid idling and exposure to emissions from other boats, and always maintain fresh air circulation.

You know what isn’t cool? Drowning. USACE data shows 88% of drowning victims are male, meaning men are about 7 times more likely to drown than women. Gentlemen, if you want to impress someone, start by buckling that life jacket.

Celebrate the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' birthday with a day at the lake! On June 16, USACE will waive day use fees at more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of the agency's birthday.

The fee waiver applies to boat launch ramps and swimming beaches but does not include camping, camping-related services, group picnic shelters or special events.

Before visiting, please contact your local USACE project or check recreation area information at www.corpslakes.us to confirm current operating conditions.

The St. Louis District welcomes more than 17 million visitors annually to its five multi-purpose reservoirs and two river projects, offering outdoor recreation opportunities across more than 416,000 acres of public lands and water.

The St. Louis District's Office of Emergency Management recently conducted Automatic Sandbag Filler Machine training, giving new flood fight team members hands-on experience operating, maintaining and deploying this critical flood-fight equipment.

The training helps ensure our teams are prepared to support state-requested flood emergency operations under Public Law 84-99, improving the speed and efficiency of sandbag production during flood response missions.

By building knowledge and readiness today, the St. Louis District strengthens its ability to support communities before, during and after flood events.

A life jacket can’t save your life if it’s floating on top of the water and you’re sinking to the bottom. Having a life jacket on your boat, even if it’s “readily accessible,” is not good enough. so you can enjoy boating another day.

As we wrap up this "Love Your Levee" campaign, here are some things to think about.

-When you live near rivers, flooding WILL happen.
-While levees can greatly benefit a community by reducing the intensity and frequency of flooding from nearby rivers and coastlines, no levee is risk free.
-When it comes to risk of any kind, you should remain informed. The time to learn and understand your risk is before a flood emergency.
-Levee experts work hard to inspect, repair, and improve the flood risk reduction systems in your community. The number one goal is always life safety.
