We are so excited to introuduce our 2026 Springfield Jingle Bell Run Medical Honoree, Dr. John Burson! 👏💚

Dr. John Burson has been a general pediatrician in Springfield, Missouri for over 27 years. After completing his residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in 1999, he moved from Cincinnati, Ohio to Springfield and began his career at Mercy where he served the children throughout Springfield and southwest Missouri. Despite the size of Springfield and the large catchment area that is served, there is very limited access to pediatric specialists without traveling over 3 hours to one of the regional children’s hospitals. Dr. Burson has worked diligently to initiate evaluation of children with possible rheumatologic conditions and collaborate with regional rheumatologists for further diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Burson has been passionate about developing a medical home for these families. He had helped to coordinate care closer to home for these families by facilitating labs, imaging and infusion therapies locally under the guidance of their specialists. As the Medical Director for the Children’s Mercy with Mercy partnership, he continues to develop a program that would increase access to care and help keep more children closer to home for their care.
