I recently visited the Chesterfield Veterans Home with a local Girl Scout troop to deliver cookies to the veterans living there.

It was a meaningful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day. Watching these young leaders take the time to give back and show their appreciation to those who served our nation was truly heartwarming.

Today, we delivered a major victory for Selfridge, for our economy, and for the people who call our lakeshore community home. With this critical investment, we are protecting thousands of jobs, strengthening our national defense, and helping ensure that Selfridge remains a cornerstone of our community for generations to come.

And what makes this achievement especially meaningful is that it was a team effort. This did not happen because of one person or one office — it happened because people came together across party lines and every level of government to get the job done.

No matter the size of their employer, every worker deserves to have healthcare they can afford. But for many small businesses, it’s tough to provide insurance to their employees — especially in this uncertain economic climate.

To help lower health care costs for both small businesses and their workers, I recently introduced legislation to allow for the creation of association health plans which allow businesses to band together and pool their resources.
