The Care Service at Sts. Joachim & Ann

The Care Service at Sts. Joachim & Ann The Care Service works with people facing a housing crisis or food insecurity in St. Charles, Lincoln, & Warren counties.

We provide them with the assistance, support, and resources they need to take their first steps toward a new beginning. At The Care Service, we see the hidden epidemic of poverty and homelessness in the counties we serve. We receive people at their lowest when there’s nowhere else to turn and provide immediate care, ongoing personalized support, and a realistic plan to get on the road to thriving.

We invite you to partner with us at The Care Service. The first steps toward a new beginning start here.

On June 13th, Parishioners of Sts Joachim & Ann joined The Care Service for a "Light for Our Neighbors" Service Day initiative in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Archdiocese of St. Louis! One of the homes these volunteers worked on was even purchased with funding we received from The Annual Catholic Appeal.

We are extremely grateful to all our volunteers who came and helped!

Summer means pool days and vacation fun for many, but for some families, it’s a season of uncertainty. When school is out, free breakfasts and lunches disappear too.

That’s why The Care Service is bringing back Pack the Pool, our annual summer food drive to fight hunger in our community.

Did you know that 20% of the male homeless population are veterans? While substantial progress has been made in reducing veteran homelessness over the past two decades, many veterans continue to face barriers related to housing and reintegration into civilian life.

In addition to the broader causes of homelessness affecting many Americans, some veterans face service-related challenges that increase their vulnerability – for example, 51% of homeless veterans have disabilities.

For many veterans, stable housing is the foundation needed to address healthcare, employment, recovery, and long-term stability. The Care Service Street Outreach team has had the privilege of walking alongside veterans experiencing homelessness in our community and working to get them housed. We are grateful for their service and are honored to play a small part in building the community support system for them.

45 years ago, Father Leibrecht and five volunteers came together with $500 and a shared goal: to serve those in crisis. What began as a small volunteer-run organization has grown into a team of 30+ employees, an even larger volunteer team, three food pantries, and 18 affordable and transitional homes.

In 1991, The first permanent Food Pantry and offices were created.
In 2007, we hired our first professional social worker.
In 2017, we launched the Street Outreach program.
In 2021, we opened the Elsberry Food Pantry and launched the Making Room Housing Campaign.
In 2022, we introduced the Mobile Food Pantry.

Each step came from asking a simple question: what more can we do?

Nothing answers this question better than Case Management. It goes beyond one-time support—paying a security deposit, stocking a fridge—to helping people build the skills they need to achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

We have received so much support along the way, more than we could ever list. We are so grateful for every act of generosity and compassion that has carried us forward in the past 45 years.
