North Carolina has issued a burning band for all 100 counties.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

There is a controlled burn on the southern end of McDowell County. The wind has caused the drift smoke to affect our area. There is no active fires currently in our area.

“Thank you” sounds so insufficient. We have been blessed with another year and another opportunity to celebrate Christmas with our members and their families. We had a great time of fellowship and laughter tonight and we reflected on this past year. We were challenged by our Chaplain with some powerful scriptures from the books of Luke and Matthew. The challenge being to remember the true meaning of Christmas and making sure He is the focal point during this holiday season. Congratulations to our member of the year, Mr. Bruce Glenn!

We would also like to thank Jordan and Kelly Jones for allowing us to use the beautiful Wild Ridge Venue and also Countryside BBQ for an amazing meal as always!

Cold 🥶 but great night of training tonight. We were fortunate to receive a donated structure for training over the past two weeks. This type of hands-on training is invaluable to our firefighters. Over the past two weeks, members reviewed and practiced a large range of hands-on and fundamental training. Tonight, they demonstrated their skills effectively.
