This week five ESD 1 members attended a Swift-water Rescue training conference at the Riversport complex in Oklahoma City, serving as instructors and receiving training. The week of training culminated in a competitive skills assessment on Friday, where Parker County firefighters teamed up with rescue personnel from Australia and won 1st in eddy swim relay, 1st in team skills competition, and the overall Team Championship title. We are proud of our firefighters continuing train and prepare to perform when called to task.

Parker County Firefighters have maintained ongoing response to the Ross Fire since early afternoon Monday, operating in Palo Pinto and Jack counties, assisting east of Bryson overnight holding the fire south of 380. Northwesterly winds have caused smoke to cover a large portion of Parker County. Please only call 911 if you can confirm you see an active fire. Smoke will remain in the area throughout the day today, we need to keep 911 lines clear for confirmed emergencies.

Parker County Firefighters have been busy handling several wildfires over the past week. Brush 47 remains assigned through the night as part of a Task Force assisting on the Ross Fire in Palo Pinto county, which has grown to 7,000 acres. Brush and Engine 48, and Battalion 101 assisted Wise County with another fire this afternoon. Additionally, four ESD 1 Firefighters are assigned to TIFMAS serving in various areas around the state including on the Rio Escondido fire in Hamilton County. Dangerous fire weather conditions will persist through the week, with firefighters out in full force protecting Parker County and across the region where needed.

Rope Rescue | Box 5407

On August 19 at approximately 5:09 p.m., PCESD1 personnel responded to the area of Scenery Hill Drive and W. Shangri La Drive, where a technical rescue response was initiated for an individual experiencing a medical emergency on an elevated water tower.

The patient was located approximately 30 feet above ground level. Due to the elevated position and limited access, technical rescue crews established a rope rescue system to safely access and remove the patient from the structure.

The rescue was completed successfully, and the patient was safely lowered to the ground and handed off to PCHD EMS personnel on scene for further care.

Technical rescue incidents require specialized personnel, equipment, and coordinated operations. This response involved personnel from multiple Parker County agencies working together to safely complete the rescue.

ESD 1, ESD 8, and Weatherford Firefighters battled a late morning blaze on Stonebridge Drive in Box 5518 today. An additional alarm was transmitted due to the high heat weather conditions in order to rotate crews.

There’s a lot that happens between a call to 911 and the moment an emergency is resolved—and much of it isn’t always visible to the public.

Fire service extends well beyond fighting fires. Personnel respond to medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, rescues, hazardous conditions and public service calls. Between calls, crews train, maintain equipment, inspect apparatus, complete continuing education and prepare for the next response.

There are also situations where common assumptions can create additional risk. The type of fire determines the appropriate suppression method. Opening a window can change fire conditions. Hazards may be present even when there is no visible smoke or flame. And the information provided to responding crews can change before they arrive.

Parker County Issues Emergency Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning

PARKER COUNTY, TX — Effective August 11, 2026, Parker County Judge Pat Deen has signed an Emergency Order declaring hazardous fire conditions across all unincorporated areas of Parker County. Pursuant to Section 352.081 of the Texas Local Government Code, the order institutes a strict burn ban to protect public safety due to critical wildfire conditions.

The order will remain in effect for seven (7) days from the date of signing.

Prohibited Activities
Under the provisions of the emergency order, the following actions are strictly prohibited in all unincorporated areas of Parker County:
• Outdoor Burning: Burning any combustible material outside of an enclosure that fully contains all flames and sparks, or ordering others to conduct such burning.
• Outdoor Welding: Conducting outside welding/cutting/grinding without meeting designated safety protocols.
Violations of this order constitute a Class C misdemeanor, enforceable by any duly commissioned peace officer, with prosecution held in the Parker County Justice of the Peace Court. Additionally, injunctive relief may be pursued to prevent violations or threatened violations.
Exceptions & Mandatory Safety Requirements
• Welding: Outdoor welding/cutting/grinding is permitted only if a positive water source is available on-site and a designated individual is present to provide a continuous fire watch during activities. These activities are not allowed on Red Flag Warning Days.
• Authorized Burns: The order does not apply to outdoor burning related to public health and safety authorized by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and conducted by a certified prescribed burn manager (under Sections 153.047 and 153.048 of the Natural Resources Code) for firefighter training, public utility/natural gas/mining operations, or agricultural crop harvesting.
Mandatory Burn Notification
Prior to conducting any allowable outdoor burning activity, individuals must notify Parker County Fire Alarm with the burn type, location, and scheduled time by calling (682) 229-2062.
Enforcement Protocol
Local fire departments will respond immediately to extinguish suspected unauthorized outdoor fires. The Parker County Fire Marshal or a commissioned peace officer will investigate reported incidents. At the investigating officer's discretion, formal warnings may be logged in the dispatcher's system for first instances, or immediate citations may be issued.
