Effingham County, the City of Springfield and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division have been working to get answers for several days to identify the source of an odor in the Springfield area. We were informed this evening that the cause was traced to a pinhole in the diaphragm of an air-operated pump at the DRT plant site, which led to intermittent emissions of the noxious odor.
The leak was repaired this afternoon, and all odors are expected to dissipate. If you continue to experience any foul smells in the area, please contact the EPD at 404-363-7000.

SPRINGFIELD – Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr will be the featured speaker at the 2024 Veterans Day observance at Veterans Park of Effingham County.

Reelected twice since being appointed attorney general by former Gov. Nathan Deal in 2016, Carr has shown a strong commitment to supporting military and veteran communities through initiatives like Military Consumer Protection Month.

The ceremony, slated Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., will also include a parade of colors, remarks from local dignitaries, patriotic music and the recognition of veterans in attendance.

Veterans Park was built to honor the men and women of Effingham County who served on active duty from the Revolutionary War through today. It is located at the corner of 1st Street and Ga. Hwy 21 across from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
