Racism and injustice are very real in America, and yet another illustration of this occurred on May 25 with the murder of George Floyd. I am deeply saddened by his death and I pray for his family and all those affected by this tragedy.

The pain and damage left by the atrocities of slavery and reconstruction, the Civil Rights struggle, and modern day occurrences of police brutality and ill-conceived law enforcement policies like stop-and-frisk, have created and continued a mistrust between police and the communities of color that they serve. This chasm was deepened by Mr. Floyd's murder.

Racism in any form is unacceptable, and when it comes from those we entrust to enforce the law, it rocks the foundation of our society's social contract of respect, decency, and order.

However, these moments of tragedy and pain must be a point of inflection and change. We will ultimately begin to heal, unite, and move forward -- together -- towards a better community, a better America, and a true equality. Those of us in law enforcement have to accept our significant role in this. In the coming days, I will continue to reflect on Mr. Floyd's murder and consider ways that this community's law enforcement can improve and serve all fairly and justly.

Family and friends,
Due to the ongoing pandemic, we have made the tough decision to postpone our annual pasta dinner this year, which we always hold in May. While this delays this beloved tradition of family, friendship, and great food, the health and safety of our community and families come first. We hope to reschedule for later this year and we’ll let you know the moment we do. We send a special thank you to the DiFilippos for their incredible help with this event throughout the years, and we look forward to being together soon. Thank you to all our supporters for all you do! Stay safe! See you soon.
