This week, Sheriff Paula Crouch swore in Correctional Officers Derek Scantlin and Brandon Gatewood as the newest members of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

Scantlin and Gatewood officially began their service with the Sheriff’s Office following the ceremony. Please join us in congratulating them as they begin their careers with the Sheriff’s Office and take on the responsibility of serving and protecting the residents of Sangamon County.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with MADD Illinois for “Saturation Saturday” on Aug. 29, joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois in an effort to prevent impaired driving ahead of Labor Day weekend.

Deputies will increase impaired driving enforcement throughout the day as part of the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Drivers are reminded to plan ahead, designate a sober driver and never get behind the wheel impaired.

As students across Sangamon County head back to school, Sheriff Paula Crouch reminds drivers to slow down, stay alert and use extra caution around school buses, bus stops and school zones.

Remember to stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended and red lights flashing, and never pass a bus that is loading or unloading children. A few extra moments of patience can help keep students safe as they travel to and from school each day.

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has concluded its participation in the July speed enforcement campaign.

Throughout the campaign, deputies conducted increased traffic enforcement focused on speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors, resulting in 137 traffic stops, 92 speeding citations, four distracted driving citations and one uninsured motorist citation.

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for a statewide Labor Day traffic safety campaign beginning Aug. 14 and continuing through the early morning hours of Sept. 8.

Deputies will conduct increased traffic enforcement with a focus on impaired and distracted driving, seat belt violations and other unsafe driving behaviors.

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office reminds motorists to plan ahead, buckle up and never drive impaired. If your Labor Day plans include alcohol or cannabis, designate a sober driver and help keep Sangamon County roadways safe.
