On the last day of Women's History Month, the ILBCF wants to salute the 46 Black Women who were members of the Illinois General Assembly!

Only 46 Black Women have been elected to IGA since its beginning in 1876. The first African American Woman Floy Clements was elected in 1958, before the Founding of the Black Caucus in 1967. The Black Caucus would not see a black woman elected until 1978 with the election of the Honorable Carol Moseley Braun and Ethel Skyles Alexander.

We salute these 46 Trailblazers and were honored to celebrate the strength of women leaders on Saturday, March 28, 2026!!!
