Flora said her father spoke 13 languages and her mother 9 or 11 languages. She taught them to Robert and me. Then I spent 12 years learning Ancient, Classical, and modern Greek languages among others like French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian, and others

Dad's parents Gus & Flora and I think it was Flora's & Alice's & & Gulfo's side who were in the olive and olive oil shipping trade and owned The Hotel Sparta and their father was The Head of The Armies of Greece. He had 3 wives and I believe they all died due to the Turks and Germans killing the family generation after generation so that finally all that was left were his 3 little girls. His family's eldest males were all Heads of The Armies of Greece way way way back for generations (it was an inherited thing, I believe) and his other sons and their sons ran the shipping and trading of the olive oils and olives and oranges, etcetera, sir.

Gus and his family owned on the opposite corner of the center of town and the ice cream parlor and pastries shop.

My grand mothers' & great & great great grandfathers were the heads is The Armies of Greece.

They were all THE STAIKOS' of Sparta, Greece, and somewhere in my grandmother's move from Greece to The United States Of America in the 1800's & she had an aunt in Georgia who poisoned my great or great great uncle's coffee one day for our money.

I loved hearing her tell that tale on her knee as a child among others and the awful ones on the wars my great or great great grandfathers' (etcetera) were in and how they had to hide under our Hotel Sparta Hotel in Sparta, Greece. Also the ones where they had to hide in the caves in the hills about Sparta Spanaway as 3 little girls with no family to feed them,

How the Turks came and butcherd everything and everyone and the same with as she said in Greek "THE AWFUL GERMANS who strung up and killed our family members while they had to watch and were let live only to be persecuted century after century.

So There Is Some Thing of My Family before they joined The Motion Picture Business of Hollywood USA in 1900 and had movie stars and important dignitaries of The State's & The World and The Heads and stars and directors end owners of The Whole Major Motion Picture Business at our homes and theirs and their studios.

Thanks so wonderfully much for letting me write something of me and my family on here all.

My story

I have another story about my dead uncle Anthony whom I believe was the second son.

He was a doctor. He died in the second World war. The German submarine ship that sunk his boat had him help them with their wounded and then shot him.
My yiya (Greek for grandmother) Flora told me that story. There was a newspaper article about it and a telegram she received. And a box with a medal. I don't know if it was for Courage or Bravery or Honor, but it was something like that.

That's why we named our Hellenic Greek Orthodox Church Saint Anthony's Hellenic Greek Orthodox Church in Springfield Illinois.

Could you please add that as well, sir.

Thanks.

Kindest Regards,

me

Mike Kerasotes

The story my grandmother told me about the war years with the turks and germans who butchered our family in Sparta Greece because her grandfather was the head of the armies of Greece: they had to hide under the porch while their mother and father were killed and strangled to death with their throats cut and the blood dripping all through the slats of the deck of the Hotel they owned and then had to hide in the hills in caves and eat figs and apples and olives and gather grains to eat and how gruesome that all was for them. It took hours and hours to tell the whole story and we always felt so sad, me and my dead dear little brother, Robert, who had to listen to it in Greek and then English because Robbie didn't speak Greek and I did. I went to Greek School for 12 years. This all happened in the 1800's and before for generations she said. That's how we are related to the King of Greece she said.

There was a story of the Countess of Georgia who poisoned her husband for his money and got caught and went to prison and I guess that's who we were related to the Catherine the Great and Tsar Peter the Great for she was one of his relatives.

Just some info on our family and our history.
