The cost of homeownership in Illinois has gotten much more expensive in just the last 5 years. According to a recent study from MoneyLion, Illinoisans need to make $40,871 more than they did 5 years ago in order to afford a home. However, under Governor Pritzker, wage growth has stagnated in our state.

Our residents, homeowners, and job creators face some of the highest effective tax rates in the nation and it's pushing the American Dream further and further out of reach for Illinois families. It's time to provide relief, rein in state spending, and make Illinois a more affordable place to live and grow.

Democrats' new digital asset tax is another step in the wrong direction for Illinois. Not only is the tax legally questionable, it heaps yet another burden onto already over-taxed Illinoisans. Rep. John Cabello's bill, HB 5798, will repeal the tax and protect residents and job creators from even higher costs.

A slew of ethics scandals rocked Illinois Democrats this summer, the latest in a long history of corruption in Illinois. Governor Pritzker's response? Lawmakers should simply remove themselves from office if they want to break the law.

Elected officials need to be held accountable for bad behavior. House Republicans have consistently called for real ethics reforms, and we will continue to stand up for an honest, transparent state government. The people of Illinois deserve it.

Ulysses S. Grant was one of four U.S. Presidents to call Illinois home. In honor of President Grant's connection and contributions to the Prairie State, Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has filed legislation to declare April 27 of each year as Ulysses S. Grant Day in Illinois.

“Our state has great history that should be commemorated and this bill will make sure that the contributions President Ulysses S. Grant made will be known throughout our state,” said McCombie.

HB 5820 creates a commemorative day named after Ulysses S. Grant to honor the 18th President of the United States of America who settled in Galena in 1860 and led the Union to victory in the Civil War as Commanding General before becoming President, championing national unity and defending civil rights for the newly freed.

House Republicans have introduced legislation to make sure Illinois is ready for the roll out of the Education Freedom Tax Credit program. HB 4201 will identify eligible scholarship granting organizations within the state. All Governor Pritzker has to do is opt into the program to allow Illinois students to benefit from this important educational resource.

How could the Education Freedom Tax Credit impact Illinois? The bipartisan program funds both public and private school students.

House Republicans introduced several measures to fix the troubling failures of Illinois' electronic monitoring system, including HB 5757, which would require revocation of pretrial release when a defendant commits a new felony while on electronic monitoring. So far, Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats have refused to take action to correct this glaring public safety issue.
