The Clark County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with the FBI Hostage Negotiation Team to host an outstanding training program, Active Listening Skills for Dispatchers.

This valuable training provided dispatch personnel with enhanced communication techniques that are critical during high-stress and crisis situations. Participants gained practical skills designed to improve information gathering, de-escalation, and overall service to the communities we serve.

The training also provided an excellent opportunity for collaboration among public safety professionals from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. Bringing agencies together to learn, share experiences, and strengthen partnerships helps ensure we are better prepared to meet the challenges of modern law enforcement and emergency communications.

A special thank you to the Springfield City School District for graciously providing the training facilities and helping make this outstanding learning opportunity possible. Community partnerships such as these play a vital role in supporting the continued development of public safety professionals.

Thank you to the FBI Hostage Negotiation Team for delivering this exceptional training and to all attendees for their commitment to professional development and public safety.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office was grateful for the opportunity to be invited to run alongside fellow law enforcement agencies in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. It was an honor to stand together for such an incredible cause.

05/22/2026

Yesterday, we stood alongside fellow law enforcement professionals, families, and community members to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to protecting our communities will never be forgotten. We remember not only the badge they wore, but the lives they touched, the families they loved, and the legacy they left behind.

We honored 4 of our own:

"Why I Serve"

"I serve because I truly care about the future of the young people in our community. As a School Resource Officer, I found purpose in building genuine relationships with students and being someone they could trust and turn to. Now in juvenile court, what keeps me going is the opportunity to reach kids during some of the most difficult moments in their lives and help guide them toward a better path. This job means leading with both strength and compassion, and it’s incredibly meaningful to know that even a small moment of understanding or support can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life."

"Why I Serve"

Law enforcement is more than a profession it is a calling grounded in service, accountability, and commitment to others. For me, that calling is deeply personal. I serve for my family and a community I truly love. This is not just where I work it is where I live, where I’ve built my life, and where my family calls home. I want this community to be the best it can be not only for my family, but for every family, and for generations to come.
I’ve also had the unique privilege of serving alongside my identical twin brother, who retired from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office as a K9 Deputy. Sharing this profession with him is something I will always be proud of. It’s a reminder that service is not just what we do it is part of who we are.
Law enforcement is not just what I do, it is who I am. For over 25 years, I have served in law enforcement. Throughout that time, one principle has remained constant: the responsibility to protect, guide, and support the community we are sworn to serve. At its core, policing is about people being present in moments of crisis, offering reassurance in times of uncertainty, and working every day to preserve safety and order.
What began as a desire to serve and protect has grown into something deeper a commitment to building trust, strengthening relationships, and leaving this community better than I found it. 25 years later, my “why” hasn’t changed it’s only grown stronger. I serve because this profession demands more than a job. It requires living your values everyday integrity when no one is watching, compassion when it’s difficult, and strength when it matters most.
At the end of the day, I am grateful to serve a community I care deeply about and to play even a small role in helping make it a place where families feel safe, supported, and proud to call home.

This is my home. This is my community. This is why I serve.

"Why I Serve"

I grew up in a household where community service and helping your neighbors were values taught to my siblings and me from a young age. I also had early exposure to public safety professionals. A friend of my father’s was a firefighter, one of our neighbors was a deputy sheriff, and another family friend served as a deputy sheriff as well. The father of my best childhood friend was the fire chief of a local township.

I looked up to all of them as heroes and knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps someday. I chose law enforcement because I felt it was my calling. Each day, I strive to assist at least one person, whether by solving a crime, helping at a crash scene, or simply patrolling a neighborhood as a preventive measure.

This job often requires helping people through difficult and unfortunate circumstances. I take pride in supporting them and do my best to leave them with a positive impression.

I feel at home at the Clark County Sheriff's Office and have the privilege of working alongside some of the best in public safety. I’m proud to be part of this team.

" Why I Serve"

I serve because I’ve learned that in people’s most difficult moments, what they need most is someone who will meet them with calm, patience, and humanity. Over the years, I’ve stood with individuals facing fear, frustration, grief, and uncertainty. No matter the situation, the constant has been the same: people who need someone willing to listen, to slow things down, and to treat them with dignity. Being that steady presence and the person who brings clarity when everything feels chaotic is why I continue to serve.
I serve because communication is one of the most powerful tools we have. I’ve seen how a sincere conversation can de-escalate tension, build trust, or give someone the room they need to steady themselves again. Every interaction, whether brief or intense, is an opportunity to understand someone’s story and respond with empathy. Those moments have shaped me. They’ve taught me that real impact doesn’t come from force or authority, but it comes from connection, patience, and the willingness to see the human being in front of you.
I serve because I care deeply about the people in my community. Every call is a chance to make someone’s worst day a little less heavy. Every interaction is an opportunity to show compassion where it’s least expected. I take pride in being someone others can rely on, someone who shows up with integrity, steadiness, and a genuine desire to help. That sense of purpose is something I carry with me every day.
And I serve because I still believe in hope. Even after witnessing some of the hardest parts of life, I’ve also seen moments of resilience, change, and healing. I’ve seen situations turn around because someone chose to listen instead of reacting, to understand instead of judge. Those experiences remind me that service is more than a job but it’s a calling rooted in empathy, courage, and the belief that every person deserves a chance at a better outcome. That belief is what keeps me showing up with a full heart.
