REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS

MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE, MUNICIPAL COURT SOLICITOR, AND MUNICIPAL COURT PUBLIC DEFENDER

The City of Springfield is accepting applications for the positions of Municipal Court Judge, Municipal Court Solicitor, and Municipal Court Public Defender.

The City of Springfield Municipal Court generally convenes one court session per month. Qualified applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia and meet all statutory requirements applicable to the position for which they are applying.

POSITION OPENINGS
Municipal Court Judge
• Compensation: $1,000 per court date
• Responsible for presiding over Municipal Court proceedings and performing all duties required under Georgia law.

Municipal Court Solicitor
• Compensation: $1,250 per court date
• Responsible for prosecuting cases before the Municipal Court and performing all duties required under Georgia law.

Municipal Court Public Defender
• Compensation: $500 per court date
• Responsible for providing legal representation to indigent defendants appearing before the Municipal Court as required by law.

APPLICATION PERIOD
Advertisement Date: June 16, 2026
Application Deadline: July 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Applicants should be available for interviews during the latter part of July 2026. Appointments are anticipated following the interview process, with successful candidates expected to be available to begin serving at the September 2026 Municipal Court session.

The City Council of the City of Springfield, GA has approved the first residential development with a “PUD” Zoning. The property is located on Hwy 119, approximately one mile west of Highway 21, and consists of seven parcels of approximately 116 acres in total. The property entrance is at Wilder Road and is referred to as the Wilder Road Project. The property will be developed by Coastal Cornerstone Development primarily as detached residential homes, with varied lot sizes, home sizes, and road widths.

Now Accepting Applications – City of Springfield Planning & Zoning Board

Are you interested in helping shape the future growth and development of Springfield? The City of Springfield is seeking applicants to serve on the Planning & Zoning Board.

The Planning & Zoning Board plays an important role in reviewing land use matters, zoning requests, development proposals, and making recommendations to City Council regarding the orderly growth of our community.

Board Composition & Eligibility

Five (5) regular members and two (2) alternate members appointed by City Council

At least four members must be:

Taxpayers primarily residing within the City of Springfield, or
Taxpayers primarily residing in Effingham County who hold a valid City of Springfield business license

Members serve staggered two-year terms

Members may not hold another public office or position within the City or County, except that one member may also serve on City Council

If you have an interest in community planning, responsible development, and preserving the character of Springfield while preparing for future growth, we encourage you to apply.

The selected artist will create an original work of public art that enhances the visual identity of the park, celebrates the Springfield community, and creates an engaging and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

The City of Springfield Planning and Zoning Board will hold public hearings with meeting immediately following close of the public hearings on June 1, 2026, beginning at 6:00pm.

The City of Springfield Mayor and Council will hold public hearings, with regular meeting immediately following the close of the public hearings on June 9, 2026, beginning at 6:00pm.

The above-mentioned public hearings will be held to receive comments on the following items:

1. Request for Rezoning of Parcel S102-2A located at 0 W. Madison Street, from zoning designation of R-1 Detached Single Family Residential to zoning of B-1 General Commercial.
2. Request for Conditional Use for a Mobile and Modular Home Sales business at proposed B-1 zoned property located at 0 W. Madison Street. (Parcel S102-2A).
3. Request for Conditional Use for Equipment Sales at B-1 zoned property located at 1110 S. Laurel Street. (Parcel S110-4D).
