Important Notice: Council Room Security Procedures

City of Springfield – Municipal Court Relocation

Due to the relocation of Municipal Court to the Springfield City Council Room, metal detectors will now be in use at the entrance to the Council Room.

Because the Council Room continues to be used for City Council meetings and other public meetings, these security procedures will apply to everyone entering the Council Room, not just those attending Municipal Court.

Please be aware of the following:

All individuals entering the Council Room must pass through the metal detector.
Bags, purses, and personal items may be subject to inspection.
Weapons and other prohibited items are not permitted.
Please follow all instructions provided by security personnel.
Arrive a few minutes early to allow time for the screening process.
Security screening will be required for City Council meetings and other meetings held in the Council Room.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as the City works to maintain a safe and secure environment for court proceedings, public meetings, City officials, employees, and visitors.

The City of Springfield Planning and Zoning Board will hold public hearings with meeting immediately following close of the public hearings on August 31, 2026, beginning at 6:00pm.

The City of Springfield Mayor and Council will hold public hearings, with regular meeting immediately following the close of the public hearings on September 8, 2026, beginning at 6:00pm.
The above-mentioned public hearings will be held to receive comments on the following items:

1. Request for Conditional Use for a Restaurant with a Drive Through at B-1 zoned property located at 1230 Hwy 21 South. (Parcel S115-16).

2. Request for Special Exemption for an accessory building located within side set-back at R-1 Zoned property located at 203 E. Third St. (Parcel S107-28).

3. Request for Special Exemption for Wall Mounted LED sign at 106 S Laurel Street, Parcel S102-28.

4. Proposed Ordinance to amend the Development Standards of the property currently zoned PUD near the intersection of Wilder Rd and GA Hwy 119.

All public hearings and meetings will be held in the Springfield Council Room located at 130 S. Laurel Street (located between Springfield City Hall and Springfield Police Department).

CITY OF SPRINGFIELD ANNOUNCES 2026 MILLAGE RATE ROLLBACK

The City of Springfield is pleased to announce that the proposed 2026 property tax millage rate will be reduced from 6.000 mills to 5.902 mills.

Springfield’s 2026 net tax digest has increased from 2025 reflecting continued investment in the community, including new residential and commercial construction and improvements to existing properties.

Because of this continued growth in the tax base, the City is able to roll the millage rate back by 0.098 mills while continuing to provide essential City services and invest in Springfield’s infrastructure and community.

The City Council will formally consider and set the 2026 millage rate at its meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the City of Springfield Council Room located at 130 S Laurel St.

The City remains committed to maintaining a responsible tax rate while supporting the services, infrastructure, and quality of life that accompany Springfield’s continued growth.

The City of Springfield would like to remind residents, businesses, employees, and visitors that two-hour parking limits are in effect for Laurel Street between Rabun Street and New Stillwell Road.

Vehicles may not remain parked in these designated areas for more than two hours during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

For longer parking, please utilize the public parking areas At Ulmer Park and Second St Parking lot (200 S Laurel St).

These parking limits help keep downtown spaces available for customers, visitors, and those conducting business in the area.

Please be mindful of posted parking restrictions and help us keep downtown Springfield accessible for everyone.

Springfield City Council Votes to Terminate Speed Camera Agreement with Blue Line Solutions

SPRINGFIELD, GA — August 12, 2026 — The Springfield City Council has voted to terminate the City’s agreement with Blue Line Solutions for the operation of the automated speed detection camera program in the Springfield Elementary School zone.

In accordance with the terms of the agreement, the City will provide Blue Line Solutions with the required 30 days' written notice of termination. The agreement is expected to terminate effective September 11, 2026. The automated speed detection program will remain subject to the existing agreement during the 30-day notice period. Upon termination of the agreement, automated speed enforcement through the Blue Line Solutions program at Springfield Elementary will be discontinued.

The speed detection camera program was originally implemented as an additional tool to encourage motorists to reduce speeds and improve safety for students, families, school employees, and motorists traveling through the school zone. Following a review of the program and discussion with Springfield Police Chief Woodcock, the City Council determined that terminating the agreement with Blue Line Solutions is in the best interest of the City and its residents.

The City Council and the Springfield Police Department - Georgia remain committed to maintaining a strong law enforcement presence in the Springfield Elementary School zone and ensuring motorists comply with posted speed limits. The Police Department will continue to enforce traffic and speed laws through traditional law enforcement methods and work with school officials to address traffic safety concerns.

The City of Springfield appreciates the community’s continued cooperation in keeping school zones safe and reminds all motorists that posted school-zone speed limits remain in effect and will continue to be enforced following the discontinuation of automated camera enforcement.

During the 30-day notice period, the City will complete the administrative steps necessary to conclude the agreement with Blue Line Solutions and transition away from the automated speed detection program.
