The idea and importance of "beauty" was always the key component to the founding philosophy of the arts. This article highlights the thinking behind the founding, mission, and desire of our founding mothers to impact their community through the creation of a shared art space!

Join us in celebrating their contribution to our community by getting involved in our first "Art of Giving Day" on September 29th! Details on this day are located here: https://www.springfieldart.org/art-of-giving-day.html

Last week, we hosted a potluck to honor our incredible volunteers who make a large portion of our community impact possible! Their dedication and care for the SAA is unmatched, and we appreciate every single person who has lent a hand! However, we would like to highlight someone who has gone above and beyond and is our official “Volunteer of the Year”, Stephanie Thomas! Stephanie is regularly lending a hand in Edward’s Place as an interpreter, in costume at multiple events, and is often found in our garden pulling weeds. She is always happy to help and we appreciate her tremendously! Stephanie will be officially recognized and presented with an award at this years “Art Synergy”! Please join us in congratulating and thanking Stephanie for her time and dedication!

Our first “Art of Giving Day” is almost here!

Our founding mothers, Georgia Miner and Elizabeth Capps, along with Harriet Cantrell, Alice Jess, Margaret Brooks, Sarah Deal, and Grace Noblett, believed that art should be accessible to all. Art enriches everyone’s existence through beauty, and everyone deserves some beauty in their lives. Today, art is defined in broader terms than “beauty”, but this simple message has informed the mission and growth of the SAA over the past 113 years.

ALL donations made on September 29th will be matched and used to sustain our founding mothers’ vision and will allow us to continue to provide our community with a shared space to engage in the visual arts!

Save the date for our first "Art of Giving Day!" The mission of this day is simple: to honor our past and secure our future.

September 29th is an important date to the SAA. On this day 113 years ago, the generosity of Alice Ferguson allowed 7 local women to fulfill their vision in a permanent location, now known as the Springfield Art Association. Stay tuned throughout the month to learn more about these women and their vision for Springfield through the arts. We hope you will join us on September 29th to honor their legacy!
