Volunteer Spotlight: Pat Metz

Some people talk about giving back. Pat Metz just shows up- year after year, project after project.

Pat is a retiree who has been volunteering with United Way for over 10 years, lending his time to organizations across our community including Senior Services of Central Illinois, Sojourn Shelter, The Outlet, Helping Hands, MERCY Communities, Friends of Sangamon Valley, and more. He's also been a Day of Action staple for 13+ years running!

What makes Pat so special? He's always ready. Whether it's a planned project or a last-minute call for help, Pat is one of the first to say yes- and he genuinely loves doing it.

Volunteers like Pat are the reason our community moves forward. Thank you, Pat, for your decade-plus of dedication and for showing up with such a willing heart! We're so grateful you're part of the United Way family. 💛❤️💙

There's no better birthday gift than a book- and this month, TPH Strategies is proving it. We're honored to have them as our Once Upon a Month sponsor for June, in celebration of owner Manny Mikaelson's birthday month. Their support helps deliver a free book every month to more than 4,700 children in Sangamon and Menard Counties through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library- 56,000+ books a year, building a love of reading one story at a time. Thank you, TPH Strategies! ❤️💛💙

June is Pride Month- and United Way of Central Illinois wants to be clear: every single person in our community belongs here.

We believe in a central Illinois where everyone has the opportunity to thrive- regardless of who you are or who you love. Our work is for every neighbor, every family, and every person across Sangamon and Menard counties.

To our LGBTQ+ neighbors, friends, and community members: we see you, we celebrate you, and we are proud to stand alongside you. Happy Pride Month! 🌈💙💛❤️

to one of the most powerful moments of last week- the dedication of the Chatham Glenwood mural at Jaycee Park!

Led by artist Austin Wells and art teacher Halle Koenig, Glenwood students created a permanent mural now installed in the heart of their community- a lasting testament to healing, pride, and the strength that defines Chatham.

We are so grateful to the students who poured their hearts into this work, the Village of Chatham for their partnership, and John Bozarth from our Rural Advisory Committee for championing this community every step of the way.

Chatham Strong. ❤️❤️❤️

to last week's mural dedication at Rochester High School!

Led by artist Austin Wells and art teacher Stacey Bell, Rochester students created a stunning two-sided mural now permanently installed in their school's courtyard- visible from every angle and full of meaning from every one.

We are so proud of every student who participated, including Jozilyn Bottrel, whose mom's pride said everything that needed to be said. 💙❤️💛

A heartfelt thank you to Bev Chapman and Darren Dalenberg from our Rural Advisory Committee, whose dedication made sure Rochester had a seat at this table.

Made possible through a Healing Illinois grant and United Way of Central Illinois.
