REMEMBERING DAYLAN SHEPARD Dayland was shot to death weeks after his twin brother Darnell was shot to death. Prayers to their mother on losing both of her twins.

Daylan Shepard was just 19 years old when his life was tragically taken in Springfield, Massachusetts. On the night of July 10, 2004, Daylan and a friend were walking home after getting snacks when they were confronted by two men. One of the men pulled out a gun and began firing without warning. Daylan was struck by gunfire and later died from his injuries. His friend was also shot and wounded in the attack.

The man responsible for Daylan’s death is Porforio Morales. Morales was arrested, charged, and convicted for his role in the shooting. At his trial, he was found guilty of deliberately premeditated murder in Daylan Shepard’s death, the assault with a dangerous weapon on Daylan’s friend, armed assault with intent to murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Morales was sentenced to life in prison for the murder conviction, along with additional prison terms on the other charges that run concurrently with his life sentence.

Daylan’s death was sudden and senseless, cutting short a young life full of promise. His family and friends continue to honor his memory and remember him for the person he was, not how he was taken. They hope that sharing his story will remind others of the real cost of violence and encourage efforts toward a safer community.

If you have information that could support victims of violence or want to learn how to help families affected by similar tragedies, please consider reaching out to the Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit at 413-787-6355. Let’s remember Daylan and work together toward peace and justice.
