Did you know that in the 1940s, hobbyists in Springfield were turning junkyard cars into homemade racing machines? This 1946 film of a "jalopy race" near what is now Highland Springs Golf Course is likely the oldest surviving footage of auto racing in the Ozarks.

The Springfield-Greene County Library District is honored to host Americans and the Holocaust, a traveling exhibition from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the American Library Association.

This powerful exhibit explores how Americans responded to Na**sm, war and genocide in the 1930s and 1940s. Through primary sources and personal stories, it highlights the choices faced by both leaders and everyday citizens — and invites reflection on responsibility and action in the face of injustice.

On view in the Library Center Reading Room from June 15–July 27, the exhibition anchors a series of related programs designed to deepen understanding and spark meaningful conversation.
