As part of our "Getting to Know You Series," today WE learned all about the Mary. She is an extraordinary mother of four and was a homemaker who marked everyone's special events with the lost art of card-giving. (For birthdays, she even gave homemade birthday cards that were very specific and thoughtful to the lucky person getting one.) When it came to the holidays, she was known for making them extra, extra special for all her family members, immediate and extended. If she wasn't watching her beloved channel 7, listening to the Beach Boys, or singing along to, "Two Sleepy People" by Dean Martin, she loved being out to eat with friends, her favorite meal being a Swiss cheeseburger, no bun! True to her Irish heritage, she had some very funny favorite sayings, including, "if you can't be good, be careful!" Her brush with fame was with Frank Gifford and one of her proudest moments was campaigning for JFK as a young teen. Biggest pet-peeve: lateness!! Favorite movie: Love Story!! Favorite author: Mary Higgins Clark!! (We'll have to take her to see Mary's old house in Spring Lake.) Asked to sum Mary up in three words, her daughter said, "social, generous, and thoughtful." WE here at Wellington have only known Mary for two years but WE all 100% agree. And WE can add one more: aWEsome!! WE love you Mary!!

Please enjoy all the pics from our WEstern-themed BBQ this past Friday. The cow was a total surprise guest and WE are just glad the chefs and dietary staff were so busy because who knows where it would have ended up otherwise!

WE recently came across something that resonated with us...if a visitor can point to any resident and ask, “Who was this person before?” and the staff can answer, it says so much about the quality of care provided. With that in mind, WE started a new activity, “Getting to Know You.” Each week, we’ll spotlight a different resident (or two) and celebrate the incredible life they lived before coming to live here. Today we learned all about our first spotlighted resident, beautiful, beautiful Grace. She was a daughter, a sister, a bank teller, a crocheter, a knitter, and a beach lover. She was charitable and always kind, loving, funny, smart, and thoughtful. (Still is!) She was a reader (always had a book in her hand), a card player, a member of the Rosary Society, and a music lover, Nat King Cole being her favorite. She was a wife, is a mother/grandmother, and family always has, and always will be, her favorite part of life. And the reason she has likely made it to 102, her two favorite sayings to live by were (and are): "Enjoy the moment" and "Patience is a virtue." (Oh, and the fact that her favorite thing to eat is chocolate candy!!) WE love you Grace...who you were, who you are, and who you are yet to be!!

It is our most viral TikTok yet so we want to share it with our Facebook Family as well. Why? Because it is so funny and uplifting. A big shout out to local author Wendy Lynn Decker who had a book presentation and signing at Wellington today. All our readers came out for the event and WE are scheduling a Book Club meeting in three weeks to discuss our take on "Whispers of Sea Glass": A secret. A black book. A Catholic school girl who asks too many questions! Any family members that would like to read it, please feel free to borrow the version WE bought for our library.

From the kitchen came your magic,

Something warm and oh so right.

But more than your amazing cooking,
It’s your heart we’ll miss each day,
The hugs, the kisses, the cheerful smile,
And the love you showed all along the way.

You always went above and beyond,
No task was ever too great,
You gave your time, your talent, your love,
And made a difference every day.

You weren’t just a coworker here,
You were part of the family too.

One of our wonderful family members recently got a new digital camera and broke it in the best possible way, by capturing some aWEsome moments with our residents. We’ could give all the credit to the camera (it really is a great one!), but truth be told, our residents would look amazing even if these photos were taken with one of those old disposable cameras from the 90s. They are beauties inside and out!! If you spot your loved one and would like a copy, please email [email protected] and she will send you one!

Friday was Gorgeous Grandma Day and we had a photo shoot with some of the GORGEOUS GRANDMAS of Wellington Estates! I think all would agree that these ladies are proof that FABULOUS gets better with age!! (And that sparkle never gets old!!)

Anyone who visits Wellington knows Donald, either by sight (he's hard to miss at 6'4"), his contagious smile, or by the loving care he gives our residents. Though his official employer is Serenity Hospice, he was placed here for over two years and he became, for all intent and purposes, part of the Wellington Family. He gave our residents on Hospice the kind of love all in that stage of life deserve. And they sure do love him back. He is relocating to live with his sister, but he knows the double doors at 2018 Rt. 35 are ALWAYS open for him. WE will miss you Donald!
