Lakers in Action: Dr. Karl Sineath!

If you walk past AP Psychology on any given day, this is the scene you'll catch: Dr. Karl Sineath—or simply "Karl" to his students—working shoulder-to-shoulder with a Laker, helping them stretch their thinking and take their ideas to the next level.

As AP Psychology has exploded in popularity at Spring Lake High School, Karl’s classroom has become a dynamic hub of critical thinking. Packed with data, rich discussions, and multiple evidence-based tools, it’s a space where deep learning meets authentic enthusiasm.

This thoughtful, engaging classroom is just a small window into the dedicated, high-level teaching happening across our district every day.

Have a wonderful, safe long weekend, Lakers! ❤️

A 5-year Strategic Plan sets a clear roadmap for who we want to be as a district—but a plan only works if you keep it active! Now that we’re halfway through our 5-year timeline, we’re taking time every Thursday to share our progress toward these district goals.

This Week's Spotlight
📍 Focus Area 1: Curriculum
🎯 Goal: Partner with local businesses, industry, and post-secondary institutions to develop real-world learning experiences that integrate career readiness while fostering community partnerships.
📊 Status: 🟢 Accomplished (yet continuously adding and evolving!)

In Action:
While earning a green check mark means we’ve met our goal, we know meaningful progress never stops growing! Real-world learning and career connections are now thriving at every level across our district:

✅High School: Reverse Job Shadow Day brings local professionals and industry leaders directly into our building to connect with students.
✅Intermediate School: Hands-on financial literacy and career immersion through JA BizTown.
✅District-Wide: Active participation in Future Prep'd (an OAISD offering) to connect students of all ages to real-world community challenges and careers.

Building our future together, one goal at a time. ❤️

The Student's View: Ali Highhill!

My favorite part about the fall season is being in the student section with my friends! Cheering on my classmates, watching the game in suspense, and chatting with my friends.

Another one of my favorite parts of the game is dressing for the themes! This past week was white out, and it was so much fun to see everyone’s outfits.

I encourage everyone to get out, and go to a game this season. It’s a lot of fun!

Recently, Jeffers Elementary School and Holmes Elementary School held their HEART Smart assemblies, and the energy in both buildings was unmatched. These gatherings were packed with big smiles, school spirit, and clear reminders of the positive behaviors and expectations that make our classrooms great places to learn, play, and grow.

When it comes to building a safe, supportive, and joyful community, our elementary Lakers proudly lead with HEART every single day! ❤️

This summer’s outdoor learning professional development is already paying off in the best way!

Mrs. Teays took her class’s counting and number-writing lesson outside for a hands-on bug hunt. While the search for worms turned into a discovery of roly-polies instead, the real magic happened with the smiles--and with the math.

Even though counting up to 17 is higher than what they’ve been practicing so far, the excitement carried them through: all 17 students were able to find or hold a roly-poly and count them up together!

This is intentional, joyful, outdoor learning at Spring Lake.

The Student's View: Megan Rasmussen!

Hey guys! Being a senior comes with lots of responsibilities but also lots of fun things. Senior year is bittersweet, and I’m feeling all the emotions right now. Stressed about school, but also so excited for all the activities that come with being a senior.

Senior sunrise is one of the fun activities that are included with being a senior. The whole senior class met at 6:30 A.M on the first day of school to watch the sunrise. We got incredibly lucky to see a beautiful sunrise. It was such an awesome experience because I never get up early enough to watch the sunrise.

Please wish our seniors--and all students--well!

Walk through the hallways at Spring Lake High School right now, and you’ll see deep learning in action. Our students are diving straight into the curriculum—thinking critically, taking notes, observing closely, and putting in the work.

Seeing this level of focus and dedication from both our Lakers and our incredible educators just one week into the year is truly inspiring.

The momentum is real!

Our first Early Release Wednesday of the school year is tomorrow, September 2!

These hours serve as crucial Professional Learning Community (PLC) time for our teachers. When students head home, our educators instantly gather across grade levels and departments to collaborate—analyzing student data, sharpening curriculum, and writing assessments that elevate academic expectations. By protecting this focused time, we ensure every Laker receives a tighter, more intentional, and higher-quality learning experience.

The Student's View: Pranay Patel!

With classes back in session, it's important to maintain a healthy school/work/life balance.

This past weekend, my family and I trekked the Grand Haven Boardwalk, where we enjoyed ice cream, the beach, and each other's company.

Downtown continues to be a social hotspot for students and parents alike, with music, festivals, and restaurants that stay busy all the time.

What is your favorite thing to do in downtown Grand Haven?

We’re proud to back Spring Lake Village - Government and Spring Lake Township - Government in building a Culture of Kindness on our local bike paths!

With dozens of Lakers riding their bikes to school every single day, using kindness as our guiding mission keeps our entire community safe, welcoming, and connected.

The Three C's for the Trail:
✅Courtesy: Share the path, ring a bell or give a friendly heads-up when passing, and greet your neighbors.
✅Caution: Stay aware of your surroundings, look out for traffic, and slow down at intersections.
✅Control: Ride at a safe speed, stay in your lane, and ride predictably.

Courtesy, caution, and control? Sounds like a winning game plan to us.

Let’s set the standard and lead the way on the paths, Lakers! ❤️
