Lakers in Action: Todd Mitchell!

We already know Mr. Mitchell is an incredibly established and skilled AP Statistics teacher, but this week, he proved he’s also got some serious athletic range!

During his 4th annual AP Stats Olympics—where students design active games, gather real-world data, and present their final research presentations—Mr. Mitchell decided to lead by example. He took to the field and executed a stellar, picture-perfect (well, maybe!) cartwheel to help his students with their data collection.

While we aren't exactly sure what the specific research question was for this particular trial, we do know one thing for certain: if the variable his students were measuring was pure happiness, Mr. Mitchell was definitely a statistically significant outlier in the data!

Thank you, Mr. Mitchell, for keeping learning high-energy, rigorous, and incredibly fun right up until the final week.

The Final Community Curiosities of the School Year!

Our May update is officially live on the district website. Before we head into summer break, we’re diving into two final, fantastic questions from our community:

📅 Parent-Teacher Conferences: The history, data, and collaborative process behind our trimester scheduling.

🌿 The High School Courtyards: The history of these spaces and how student-led "elbow grease" is bringing one back to life.

Summer Recess Notice:
We are pausing our monthly responses until August, but our webpage will remain open all summer long. We encourage you to visit the page to review past questions and see the "why" behind the district's thinking on various topics.

🥍 Girls Lacrosse (Regional Finals)
When: Friday, May 29 at 6:00 PM (Tonight!)
Where: East Grand Rapids
The Scoop: The ladies are playing for a Regional Championship tonight. Let's pack the stands!

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Boys & Girls Track (State Finals)
When: Saturday, May 30 at 9:30 AM
Where: Hamilton High School
The Scoop: Our elite runners, vaulters, and jumpers are taking on the absolute best in the state.

🥎 Softball (Districts)
When: Saturday, May 30 at 10:00 AM
Where: Coopersville High School
The Scoop: Tournament time begins! The softball squad heads to enemy territory looking to make a big district run.

⚾️ Baseball (Districts)
When: Saturday, May 30 at 11:30 AM
Where: Oakridge High School
The Scoop: After a pre-district win earlier this week, the boys move on to the next round of tournament play this Saturday.

⛳️ Boys Golf (State Finals)
When: Saturday, June 6
Where: The Meadows at GVSU

We are closing out our graduation coverage with our very youngest learners! Today, our sweet preschoolers officially wrapped up their school year with their own graduation ceremonies, surrounded by loving, smiling, and incredibly proud families.

The growth these little Lakers have shown from their first day to today is absolutely amazing.

What a beautiful, full-circle week it has been for our entire district—from our high school seniors moving out into the world completely, to these little ones proudly moving up into the ranks of kindergarteners.

The future of Spring Lake is in very good hands!

A Dazzling Night at Trinity Health Arena!

What an absolutely unforgettable evening! Trinity Health Arena was packed to the brim with Laker pride last night as we officially celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026. From the radiant smiles of our new graduates to the proud cheers of families and the immense gratitude of our educators, it was the perfect culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and community spirit.

The energy in the arena was electric as diplomas were handed out, caps were tossed, and a brand-new chapter officially began for our newest alumni.
