🚨 I-65 Widening Added to TDOT's 10-Year Project List 🚨

About a year ago, Spring Hill—along with Thompson's Station, Columbia, Williamson County, and Maury County—unanimously passed a resolution I authored calling on TDOT to prioritize widening I-65 south of 840 due to the constant congestion that so many of us sit in every single day. Since then, we've worked through every channel available to push this project forward as quickly as possible (including Mayor Matt Fitterer advocating for this at the GNRC).

Today, I'm thrilled to share a major update: TDOT released their 10-Year Project List this week, and widening I-65 from 840 to Saturn Parkway was added as a new $150 million project. Design will start immediately in 2026 and construction is slated for 2028. This project will add lanes through the stretch where we so desperately need congestion relief.

Here's what makes this even bigger: when new projects get added to the 10-Year List, they're usually placed at the end. TDOT decided this project was important enough that work needed to start right away. That's about as fast as a project of this size can possibly move.

If you're like me and you sit in that bottleneck on your commute every day, you know exactly how big of a win this is for Spring Hill and for the entire southern Williamson and Maury County region. And it's proof of a deeply held belief by our BOMA that when we work together and partner with our neighbors to speak with one unified voice, we can deliver real, regional solutions that benefit everyone. A resolution that started as words on paper is now a funded road project.

Thank you to every resident, every council and commission member, and every elected official at the state and local levels across our region who stood with us on this. We turned our collective frustration into collective action, and now we're turning it into smoother, safer commutes.

We're not done yet, but today is a day to celebrate for Spring Hill and the rest of our region.

Happy Sunday, Spring Hill!

Sharing this message from the City. We have first responder crews from our Public Works, Police, and Fire Departments working on keeping the city safe amidst downed trees and accidents in several spots. Roads are not safe right now with the winter weather.

Please join me in keeping these men and women in your thoughts and prayers as they brave the elements for us today. The best way we can honor their sacrifice is to give them room to work.

City officials ask that residents stay off the roads and stay home. The Spring Hill Police Department and Spring Hill Fire Department are working multiple crashes and calls of trees down across Spring Hill roads.

Last month, I shared about our effort to advocate for the widening of I-65 between 840 and Bear Creek Pike—a struggle I live every day alongside so many of you (traffic was rough on the commute to my office in Franklin today too). I authored a resolution that each jurisdiction along the corridor has voted to call on the GNRC, TDOT, and our state representatives to prioritize the widening of I-65 in this area.

Today, I'm thrilled to share a big update: Every jurisdiction along this corridor—Spring Hill, Thompson’s Station, Columbia, Williamson County, and Maury County—has officially passed the resolution without a single vote against it. This unanimous regional support sends a powerful message.

In Spring Hill, we believe in working together with our neighbors and leading by example. By actively partnering with surrounding communities, we’re not just identifying problems—we’re stepping forward to deliver regional solutions that benefit everyone. We know resolutions alone don’t widen roads. But they’re a critical first step to secure state funding and prioritize projects. By speaking with a unified voice, our region significantly strengthens our position to turn these resolutions into real, funded road improvements.

What's next? We'll now use our collective, unified voice to advocate directly to TDOT, the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC), and our state elected officials. This strong regional solidarity significantly strengthens our ability to secure the funding and attention needed to widen and improve this critical stretch of I-65.

Regional problems need regional solutions, and when we speak together, our voice is stronger. I'm committed to keeping Spring Hill’s needs front and center—and I won't stop fighting until we turn our daily grind into smoother, safer commutes.

I’m honored and grateful to share that I’ve been selected by the BOMA to serve as Vice Mayor at our meeting last night.

Special thanks to Mayor Matt Fitterer for nominating me, and to my fellow board members for their vote of confidence.

At Mayor Fitterer’s first meeting, he challenged our board to embrace three guiding principles:

1. Collaborative Leadership – Our toughest challenges can’t be solved in isolation. They require strong partnerships beyond our city limits with our county and state colleagues.

2. Action-Oriented Mindset – We’ll arrive prepared, ready to take decisive action, and focused on turning ideas into results that directly benefit the people of Spring Hill.

3. Solution-Focused Approach – It’s easy to identify problems, but true leadership is about crafting practical solutions rather than assigning blame.

I’m committed to working alongside Mayor Fitterer and the entire BOMA team to put these principles into action. Together, we’ll make real progress and improve daily life for all Spring Hill citizens.

Tonight at 6 PM we’ll hit two milestones back‑to‑back: swearing in our new Mayor and Board, then taking the next (practical) steps on Spring Hill’s most pressing projects. Here’s what’s on the BOMA docket—equal parts celebration and a clear look at how our votes move projects from plan to progress.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟭 | 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴‑𝗜𝗻

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 – City Judge Dusche administers the oath to Mayor‑Elect Matt Fitterer. Moments later, Mayor Fitterer swears in myself along with new board members Alex Jimenez, Jaimee Davis, and Erinn Hartwell.

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 – Because Mayor Fitterer’s move creates a vacancy in Ward 2, we’ll vote on Resolution 25‑95 to appoint a resident to serve the remainder of that term. This keeps every ward fully voiced until the next city‑wide election.

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲-𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 – Our charter lets the Board choose a Vice‑Mayor from among its members each term. The Vice‑Mayor chairs meetings when the Mayor’s away and breaks procedural ties, so expect that vote right after the oaths.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘀/𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – We’ll also plug aldermen into open seats on bodies like the Planning Commission and other working committees. These groups do the deep‑dive work between BOMA meetings, so filling those chairs tonight keeps projects moving without pause.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟮 | 𝗛𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗹𝘁

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝟭 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁

Surface Transportation Program dollars come from the federal gas tax, flow through TDOT, and are earmarked on the GNRC regional project list (think: a wish‑list of priority corridors).

Cities still chip in a local match, so where we aim these funds matters.

Tonight we’ll commit Spring Hill’s share—an additional almost $1 million—specifically to Highway 31/Main Street to keep that widening on pace. Spring Hill has taken this step the past few years and this increases our commitment to around $6.4 million to move this forward.

Along with our contribution, we're thanking the Town of Thompson's Station for their monetary commitment to help move the Highway 31 Widening Project forward on TDOT's Priority List.

𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴—𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀

We’ve finished design, secured right‑of‑way, and collected bids.

The contract on tonight’s agenda awards construction to Mastec Civil, LLC, meaning dirt can start moving shortly after paperwork is signed.

Four More Years.

The voters have spoken and I am beyond humbled and honored that you have trusted me to serve Spring Hill as the Alderman in Ward 4 for the next four years.

I want to thank Kimberly Hughes for a race well run and a good clean campaign. I also want to congratulate Mayor-Elect Matt Fitterer and Aldermen-Elect Alex Jimenez, Jaimee Racelis Davis, and Erinn Hartwell.

It’s time to get to work to deliver on that trust that Spring Hill has shown us tonight. We’ve accomplished a lot during the past four years but there is so much left to do. The best is yet to come for our great city. Thank you, Spring Hill!

With Election Day coming up tomorrow, I couldn’t be more grateful for the support, energy, and ideas you’ve shared throughout this campaign. It’s been a privilege connecting with so many neighbors who, like Jessi and me, deeply love Spring Hill and want the very best for our community’s future.

Together, we’ve accomplished a lot over the past four years:

✅ Successfully advocated for Highway 31 widening, securing its place on TDOT’s priority list, which will ease traffic and improve connectivity.

✅ Built Spring Hill’s first standalone police headquarters and started construction on our newest fire station (Fire Station #4), enhancing public safety.

✅ Acquired a new 47-acre community park on Hurt Road, expanding our recreation options.

✅ Lowered property taxes twice while simultaneously improving our city’s bond rating through our financial stewardship.

✅ Advanced critical water infrastructure projects, including new water tanks at Arbor Valley and June Lake, and the innovative Project SWIFT to secure our water future.

✅ Prevented the development of over 3,500 housing units through strategic re-zonings and land acquisitions, turning those areas into parks or commercial properties.

And just as anyone in Spring Hill can easily see by looking around, we still have many issues to solve. We also have incredible opportunities ahead because of our city’s great potential.

Over the next four years, I’m committed to:

➡️ Further improving our sewer and water infrastructure by advancing comprehensive solutions like Project SWIFT to keep pace with the growth that is coming our way.

➡️ Continuing to move forward the pace of our roadway expansion like Highway 31 and widening of I-65 by strengthening partnerships with local, county, and state officials.

➡️ Supporting our public safety by continuing to invest in and support our police, firefighters, and first responders.

➡️ Executing strategic local transportation projects, prioritizing improvements at Port Royal Road, Kedron Road, and ensuring local connectivity.

➡️ Protecting our city’s character through thoughtful, responsible growth balanced with preservation and making sure that improvements from growth come before the impacts of that growth.

➡️ Continuing to practice responsible fiscal management, ensuring wise investment of your tax dollars.

I believe Spring Hill’s best days are ahead of us—but the next four years are critical. We need to keep making smart investments in infrastructure, maintain strong fiscal management, and build effective partnerships to bring resources to our community. I’m committed to providing the experienced leadership needed to guide these efforts.

🚨 Highway 31 Widening Update🚨

Yesterday, TDOT released its updated 10-Year Project List and our most critical road improvement project—the widening of Highway 31 (Main Street/State Route 6)—has been moved UP in priority! Preliminary engineering, initially slated for 2028, will now start *next year* in 2026. Preliminary engineering involves initial project planning, design, and environmental reviews —the first step in a road project becoming construction-ready. In TDOT’s new project delivery philosophy, they have committed to complete any project they start. This puts us two years closer to real solutions on one of Spring Hill’s most congested roads.

If you’ve been around a while, you know the history: the Highway 31 widening project topped TDOT’s list in 2019 but fell off the priority list in 2021. When I stepped into the GNRC representative role in January 2023, I made it my priority to re-establish active communication and collaboration with TDOT and GNRC, and other municipalities who share our transportation needs like Thompson's Station emphasizing the importance of all of our city's transportation needs. By December 2023, through that collaboration, we successfully got Highway 31 back on TDOT’s priority project list, and now we’re seeing the payoff.

Though construction is still projected for 2033, moving preliminary engineering forward is crucial. This earlier start provides us with a valuable opportunity to accelerate the overall timeline, especially as additional funding becomes available through the governor’s budget this cycle.

I’ll keep working hard to keep our roads—and your commutes—a priority. Thanks for your continued support, Spring Hill! Let’s keep this momentum going.

As someone who also sits in traffic on I-65 between 840 and Saturn Parkway every single day heading to work, I get it—this daily grind isn't just frustrating; it's exhausting. (Trust me, my podcast game has never been stronger.) Tonight, the Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen will consider a resolution urging the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) and TDOT to prioritize widening this bottlenecked section of I-65.

Why now? The GNRC (the group that prioritizes road projects for state and federal funding in Middle Tennessee) is currently updating its Regional Transportation Plan—a major planning effort that only happens once every five years. This plan directly determines funding priorities for our region’s road projects. I’m currently serving as Spring Hill’s representative on the GNRC’s Transportation Policy Board—a role typically held by the Mayor—actively advancing Spring Hill’s interests and working to make road improvements a reality for our community. While road projects naturally take time, getting this prioritized now is an essential first step.

Speaking together as a region matters. The congestion and safety issues along the I-65 corridor between 840 and Saturn Parkway don’t just affect Spring Hill—they impact every community along this stretch. Recognizing that regional problems require regional solutions, I’ve worked closely with city and county leaders in Thompson’s Station, Columbia, Williamson County, and Maury County—and personally authored a resolution that each jurisdiction is now considering.When we advocate together, our combined voice is much stronger and more effective in securing attention and funding. Once passed, we will present these unified resolutions to GNRC to clearly demonstrate our region's urgent need.

It’s long past time for TDOT to make progress on this critical infrastructure need. My goal is simple: fewer exhausting commutes, safer roads, and more time at home with family. I’ll keep fighting to make sure Spring Hill’s needs stay front and center until this daily grind is behind us.
