Martin for Supervisor, Livingston District

Martin for Supervisor, Livingston District I am running for the position of Supervisor, Spotsylvania County, Livingston District. I have lived in Spotsylvania County for over 25 years. Too built up!

I am Bob Martin and I am running for Supervisor, Livingston District, Spotsylvania County. I was born in Queens, New York and was raised on Long Island where I was elected to the Middle Country Central School District (MCCSD #11) School Board two times and served as Vice President of the Board of Education. In July 1985 I was transferred to Richmond, VA as a postal inspector which is a federal law

enforcement officer with the same authority as an FBI or Secret Service agent. In December 1989 I moved to Spotsylvania in a transfer to Washington DC. I retired as an Assistant Inspector in Charge (AIC, which in other agencies is the same as an ASAC) in October 2008 after 26 years of service in the Postal Service and the US Postal Inspection Service. In February 2010 I served as Outreach Coordinator for the Fredericksburg Area HIV/AIDS Support Services. In September 2012 I was diagnosed with Melanoma and have since recovered. I was married in 1976 and have two sons. I was widowed in 1998 due, ironically, to Melanoma. Since then I was partnered in 2009 and re-married in 2012. And yes, it is a same s*x marriage. In addition to our two sons, we have two daughters-in-law and three grandsons. We also have three dogs, all of which are rescues of one kind or another. Since retiring, I have served my community in a variety of ways. I have served as a council member, treasurer and secretary of my church, Resurrection Lutheran, since 1998 with minor breaks in service. I also serve as an assisting minister and in other worship assistant positions on a regular basis. I have served for four years as the Financial Director of the Fredericksburg Chapter of Thrivent Financial, a faith based board charged with distributing funds for “good works”. I am currently president of PFLAG Fredericksburg. Politically, I am a Democrat. I am currently the secretary of the Spotsylvania County Democratic Committee. I am the vice chair for Candidate Endorsement of the LGBT Democrats of Virginia. I am also a member of the 7th Congressional District Committee and the Democratic Party of Virginia Central Committee. I am running for Supervisor because I believe the people of Livingston need an independent voice on the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors. As a Democrat, I am not beholden to the party that controls and will continue to control the Board of Supervisors after the November election. The people of Livingston deserve an independent supervisor who will fight to help preserve our way of life in the district. I have lived in several places that were at first rural but became built up. We need smart government, responsive and responsible government, and a government of integrity and transparency. I can make that difference.
