At a time when q***r, trans, immigrant, and refugee communities are being targeted, showing up for each other matters. We honor the origins and legacy of Pride led by Black and Brown q***r and trans activists, and we will continue to build a future rooted in belonging and solidarity. From Stonewall to Delaney Hall and to Spokane:

Pride is Resistance.

✨ Today, June 11th, marks the one-year anniversary of the community protest in Spokane against ICE’s illegal detainment of our immigrant neighbors that led to the unjust verdict of Jac Archer, Justice Forral, and Bajun Mavalwalla II. We stand in solidarity with them and our right to protest and assembly. Community is not Conspiracy. Support the !

✨ We’re a proud endorser of ! We say NO to hate, bullying, and harassment of any Washington students. This November, VOTE NO on IL26-001 and IL26-638, two poorly written initiatives that remove protections for child abuse victims, 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, and put girls at greater risk of harm.

AYCL fellowship is a civic leadership cohort for Asian and Asian American high school age youth who are passionate about building the skills, confidence, and community power to create meaningful change in Spokane, in their lives, and beyond.⁠

We're excited to present Asians in the Outdoors, a new ACL Spokane Community Wellbeing program created to help Asian and Asian American communities connect with nature, build confidence outdoors, and access healing through recreation and community.⁠

We believe environmental justice is about more than protecting our environment. It's about ensuring everyone has access to clean air & water, green spaces, and opportunities to rest and belong. For many communities, barriers to outdoor recreation can make those benefits harder to access.⁠

That's why we're partnering with the Spokane Riverkeeper for our first adventure on the Spokane River. We'll spend a day floating the river, sharing a meal, learning about river conservation, and deepening our connection to the land and waters that sustain us.⁠

My father is called the “godfather of Asian American media” for his pioneering work in the field, but it took me years to see him as such, because to me he was just Dad. At first, I thought people called him that because he was old. He was 44 years old when I was born, twice the age of most of my friends’ fathers.⁠
⁠
When I finally grasped how much he has done, I was more intimidated than proud. Perhaps if I hadn’t followed in his footsteps – the fledgling filmmaking son of a bona fide filmmaking legend – I wouldn’t have been so petrified. I remember after making my first film, my mother – who has written and produced many of my father’s films – introduced me as “the new and improved Robert Nakamura.” She meant that as a compliment but I was mortified. How could I ever live up to what he has done?⁠
⁠
It has taken me awhile – over the course of making four films of my own – to realize that I don’t have to be him. He taught me better than that. Like the others he mentored over thirty years of teaching, he helped me develop my own voice, my own vision. He has passed on two things: the privilege, as well as the responsibility to tell our own stories – he, his generation’s, and me, I realize, my own.⁠

Generations of artists call Robert A. Nakamura “The Godfather of Asian American film,” but his son, Tad, calls him Dad. ⁠

As the filmmaking son of a filmmaking legend, Tad uses the lessons his dad taught him to decipher the legacy of an aging man who was a child survivor of the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans, a successful photographer who gave it up to tell his own story, an activist at the dawn of a social movement—and a father whose struggles have won his son freedoms that eluded Japanese Americans of his generation. ⁠

As Parkinson's Disease clouds his memory, Tad sets out to retrieve his story—and in the process discovers his own. The two have made films together, with Robert always by Tad’s side. THIRD ACT is most likely the last.⁠
