A wonderful group of volunteers from Refugee and Immigrant Connections and Manzanita House joined us to pot seedlings - in just 2 hours, they potted over 800 quaking aspen seedlings! These trees will be planted in riparian areas this fall, helping to restore wetland areas. Thank you to these volunteers - as new Spokanites, they have moved to this area from all over the world, and are already making their new home a healthier, greener place.

Happy Earth Day!
For 3.8 billion years, life on earth has been creating conditions conducive to life. Nature has already shown us what works - diversity, adaptation, and cooperation. Everything is connected, and we are part of that system. We have a choice - to work against those patterns or with them. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the challenges we face today, but agency is the antidote to despair. The ability to act—to build, to respond, to protect what we love —transforms anxiety into momentum. We start by showing up. Let’s choose to create a future where life can thrive.

Join us and the US Fish & Wildlife Service for our annual hands-on Earth Fest event at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge on April 25th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Volunteers can participate in three activities: seedling potting, fence removal, and tree thinning to support wildfire defense and forest health. Jack Nisbet will be the keynote speaker, sharing insights on the history of fire on the landscape, particularly its role as a cultural practice, and will be available for a book signing. Several partner organizations and agencies will have outreach tables, and lunch will be provided.

Whether you're a longtime volunteer or joining us for the first time, your participation makes a real difference. Come enjoy the fresh air, connect with fellow nature enthusiasts, and help care for this special place.

When: Saturday, April 25th 9:00-1:00
Where: Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge (26010 S Smith Rd, Cheney, WA 99004)
Who: Families, individuals, and groups of all ages are welcome!
