Today marks the kickoff of the nomnom Backpacks for Kids Round-Up Campaign, and we couldn't be more grateful for the incredible partnership between nomnom and The Salvation Army Spokane!

For the past 17 years, nomnom customers have helped ensure local children start the school year with confidence and the supplies they need to succeed. Every time you visit a participating nomnom location, you can simply round up your purchase, and that donation will go directly toward helping provide backpacks and school supplies for local kids.

This morning, our very own Captain David Cain joined Alex Coenjaerts from KXLY and Sam McGovern from nomnom to officially kick off the campaign.

What makes this campaign so special is that every donation, no matter the size, helps a child walk into their classroom feeling prepared, confident, and cared for.

So, the next time you stop by nomnom for a drink, snack, or fuel, consider rounding up your purchase. Those spare cents and dollars add up to something much bigger: hope, opportunity, and a brighter start to the school year for thousands of local children.

Thank you, nomnom, for 17 years of partnership, generosity, and investing in Spokane's future. And thank you to our community for helping us make a difference, one round-up at a time.

Campaign runs through July 10

This week, we honor the incredible transformation and faithfulness seen through one of our own at The Salvation Army Spokane.

Last Thursday night at Celebrate Recovery, Larry, a graduate of The Way Out Center, received his 2-year sobriety coin, two years clean and sober, housed, thriving, and walking in restored purpose.
But Larry’s story doesn’t stop there.

Every week, he drives the van to The Way Out Center to bring others to Celebrate Recovery, giving back to the very program that helped save his life. Today, relationships with his son and grandchildren have been restored, and he now gets the joy of babysitting his grandkids when his son is out of town.

This is what redemption looks like.
This is what restoration looks like.
This is what happens when hope, community, and perseverance come together.

Please join us in celebrating Larry and praying for every individual still fighting for freedom, healing, and a fresh start.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

At The Salvation Army Spokane, community is built around more than programs; it’s built around relationships.

One of the ways that happens is through “Bibles, Bros & Breakfast Burritos,” a men’s breakfast and Bible study hosted by Captain David Cain.

It’s a simple but powerful gathering:
Good food.
Real conversations.
Encouragement.
Prayer.
And men growing together in faith and community.

In a world where so many people feel isolated or overwhelmed, spaces like this matter. Sometimes hope begins with a warm breakfast, an open Bible, and people willing to walk through life together.

We’re grateful for the moments happening around the table each week and for the lives being strengthened through fellowship and faith.

This week for Warrior Wednesday, we are asking our community to join us in prayer for children who have experienced abandonment, trauma, and fear.

Recently, a little girl entered Sally’s House carrying heartbreak no child should have to carry. Nighttime has been especially difficult for her. The fear of being alone and the nightmares have made it hard for her to feel safe.

One of our staff members has been sitting with her each night, comforting her and reading bedtime stories until she falls asleep, simply so she knows she is not alone.

Our director shared through tears:
“To bring her comfort and peace, I’m willing to sacrifice other things that need to be done just to stay with her until she’s asleep. She’s such a sweet little girl who is scared and abandoned and just needs someone there for her.”

Today, we ask you to pray:
• For children carrying trauma and fear
• For peace and comfort at night
• For healing from abandonment
• For strength and wisdom for foster parents and caregivers
• For every child to know they are loved, protected, and never alone

Sometimes healing begins with something as simple as a bedtime story and someone willing to stay.

161 years ago, The Salvation Army began with a simple mission: meet human needs and share hope.

From serving soldiers during wartime to helping families facing homelessness, hunger, addiction, and crisis today, that mission has never changed.

Here in Spokane, we see that hope every day: A child receiving a safe place to stay. A family bringing home groceries from Hope Market. Someone finding warmth, shelter, and support during a difficult season. Small acts of kindness become life-changing moments.

Thank you for being part of the story. Because of this community, hope continues to grow right here at home. ❤️

National Salvation Army Week

Today, we are lifting up our military members, veterans, and first responders in prayer.

Throughout history, The Salvation Army has stood beside those serving on the front lines, offering encouragement, care, prayer, meals, and hope during times of crisis and war. Just as Salvation Army workers supported soldiers during World War I and World War II, we continue to pray for and support those who sacrifice so much to protect and serve others.

Please join us in praying for:
• Protection over our military and first responders
• Strength for those facing trauma, stress, and exhaustion
• Peace for their families waiting at home
• Wisdom, courage, and endurance in every situation
• Hope, healing, and the love of Christ to surround them

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid... for the Lord your God goes with you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)

This week marked an exciting milestone at Camp Gifford as we hosted our first large Outdoor Education camp program. While we’ve welcomed smaller rural school groups in previous years, this week’s campers came from an inner-city neighborhood in Spokane… and the impact was immediate and unforgettable.

Throughout the week, stories of growth, courage, and transformation unfolded across camp.....

Warrior Wednesday Prayer Requests

Today, we ask for prayer over Evangeline’s House and the incredible staff who serve there each day.

Evangeline’s House is a short-term emergency care placement through The Salvation Army Spokane that provides safe, compassionate shelter for vulnerable youth ages 12–17 and emerging adults ages 18–20 who have nowhere else to go.

The work happening inside those walls is deeply meaningful, but also deeply sacrificial. As our Program Manager beautifully shared:

“It's a sacrificing role, where you are the alabaster jar being crushed to pour out the fragrant oil, to be a beacon of hope, safety, and stability for these teens.”

Today, please join us in praying for:
• Strength, wisdom, and emotional endurance for the current staff
• Protection over their hearts, minds, and families
• Encouragement during difficult days
• New staff coming in, that they would feel called, equipped, and supported in this mission
• Healing, peace, and stability for every youth who walks through the doors of Evangeline’s House

This ministry fills a critical need in our community, offering not just shelter, but compassion, dignity, safety, and hope during some of the hardest moments in a young person’s life.

Thank you for praying with us today.
