Most high school music programs teach students how to read notes on a page. We teach them how to command a stage.

When we first set out to build a rock-based music program, there was no standard curriculum to pull from. As Matt Heritage, our music director noted, the success of this initiative relied entirely on whether the youth would step up to the challenge.

They didn't just step up, they amplified it.

Instead of traditional classroom recitals, our high school arts program is designed to mirror the real industry. Our student musicians aren't just practicing in a vacuum; they are forming their own bands, mastering their instruments, and preparing to enter the Spokane music scene as capable, confident artists. They are learning the profound discipline it takes to perform live, and the intense teamwork required to keep a band together.

Now, it's time to turn up the volume. On Wednesday, June 10th, we are hosting our 1st annual outdoor Art Exhibition & Music Festival. This is a massive, public celebration of project-based learning, featuring live sets from our very own student-led bands: No Recollection, Flourish, and Hot British Rats.

If you're a local professional looking to support arts education in Washington, or if you just want to see what happens when a teacher gets to play Metallica alongside his students, this is where you need to be.

🗓️ Date: Wednesday, June 10th @ 5:30 PM
🎟️ Entry: 100% Free

There is a massive difference between reading about economics in a textbook and actually building a local marketplace from the ground up.

On June 5th, our Class of 2027 is doing exactly that. They aren't just hosting a high school fundraiser; they're managing the Summer Kickoff, a massive Spokane vendor market that brings our local economy directly to our campus.

At Innovation High School, we believe the best way to teach youth leadership and project management is to hand students the reins. Right now, our juniors are actively organizing the logistics for dozens of Spokane small businesses, coordinating with local artisans, and setting up their own booths as student entrepreneurs to pitch their own products to the public. They are learning how to network, how to execute a large-scale event, and how to take total ownership of their senior year expenses.

We want the Spokane business community to show up in full force for these young professionals.

A high school diploma is a milestone. A professional network is a lifeline.

In Spokane, it's easy to get caught up in the narratives about what our city lacks. But if you look closely at the Spokane arts community, you will find an incredibly tight-knit ecosystem of creators, photographers, musicians, and local business owners who actively and fiercely support one another.

As our Director of Fashion, Ronnie Ryno, points out, this city is built on mutual support and cross-promotion. When we call on Spokane small businesses and local professionals to help guide our youth, they don't hesitate. They jump right in.

Because of this profound community partnership, our students aren't just completing assignments in a vacuum. The local community literally becomes their professional network. They are graduating already embedded in the local economy, knowing the artists, the makers, and the leaders of this city because they have been working right alongside them.

Tonight is the night we celebrate that exact network in action.

Our 8th Annual Fashion Show kicks off this evening. If you want to see what happens when a city decides to actively invest its time, resources, and trust into its youth, you need to be in the audience tonight.

📍 Event: 8th Annual Innovation High School Fashion Show

A spark of imagination is a beautiful starting point. But it takes profound mentorship to engineer that spark into a fully realized concept.

At Innovation High School, you can learn so much from our classroom settings. Just listen to our Director of Fashion, Ronnie Ryno. With 27 years of teaching experience, she understands that young creators don't just need a sewing machine, they need the dedicated space and trust to build something entirely their own.

Within our high school fashion design department, the main studio space is reserved for our Osiris students: dedicated juniors and seniors who have completed their foundational courses and are actively designing their own original clothing collections.

When these students showcase their work at our 8th Annual Fashion Show this coming Friday, they aren't just turning in a final project. As Ronnie beautifully points out, they are experiencing the incredibly gratifying moment of realizing just how amazing their own capabilities are.

Join us on May 29th to see exactly what happens when youth are trusted to bring their imagination into the real world.

When we invest in student-led creative projects within a Spokane Schools ecosystem, we aren't just teaching a technical skill. We are actively cultivating the next generation of the Spokane arts community.

As families weigh their high school enrollment options, one of the biggest concerns is whether their student will be genuinely cared for. At Innovation High School, that level of care isn’t an afterthought; it’s the foundation of everything we do.

You can ask Jesse, our Director of Student Services. He doesn't view his role as just a job; he sees it as a privilege. "I want to do right by the families and the kids," he says. "Whatever I can do to help them be successful and feel safe and comfortable here at school and flourish. That's what drives me."

In many Spokane high schools, student services can feel like a bureaucratic office you only visit when there’s a problem. But in our public education ecosystem, Jesse and his team are proactive. They're deeply embedded in the daily lives of our youth, ensuring that every student has the robust student support they need to not just survive, but to truly flourish.

When a young person feels unequivocally safe and supported, they have the freedom to discover their creative genius. We are incredibly grateful for Jesse’s leadership, his humility, and his unwavering dedication to our students.

If you're looking for an environment where your student will be seen, supported, and guided toward success, enrollment for the upcoming school year is now open. Hit the link below and schedule your tour today.

Real creative growth doesn't happen in a vacuum; it happens when we bridge the gap between the classroom and the heart of our city.

As we count down the days to our annual Spokane fashion show on May 29th, our students are gaining a masterclass in how to build a brand within a local ecosystem. Under the expert mentorship of Ronnie Ryno, our Director of Fashion, these young creators aren't just designing in isolation. They are actively engaging with Spokane community partnerships like the one we’ve built with The Arc of Spokane

Ronnie’s approach is as much about professional resourcefulness as it is about aesthetics. By guiding students through the racks at The Arc, she is teaching them how to see raw potential in repurposed clothing and how to ethically source materials for sustainable fashion design. This isn't just a field trip; it's an exercise in seeing our local nonprofits as vital creative allies.

When a student designer learns to navigate the real world by pitching ideas, hunting for textiles, and collaborating with local partners, they stop being just "students." They become the next generation of the Spokane arts community.

We want to invite you to see the results of this profound mentorship and collaboration. Our designers are ready to show you what happens when a community invests its resources back into its youth.

Ninth grade isn't just another step up; it is the single most critical transition in a young adult's educational career.

In many Spokane high schools, incoming freshmen are dropped into a massive, fast-paced system and expected to instantly know how to manage their time, advocate for themselves, and navigate the pressure. But expecting a 14-year-old to just "figure it out" on their own is exactly how brilliant, capable youth quietly slip through the cracks.

That is why we fundamentally changed the model with our 9th Grade Success program.

Instead of waiting for a student to fail before offering student support, we actively teach our high school freshmen how to succeed. We treat the transition itself as part of the curriculum. In our alternative education ecosystem, our freshmen are given the dedicated time and intentional mentorship to learn how to ask for help, how to bounce back from a mistake, and how to take total ownership of their own learning.

When you give a student a safe, solid foundation in their freshman year, they don't spend the next three years playing catch-up. They spend them discovering exactly who they want to be.

If your incoming 9th grader needs an environment that prioritizes their emotional and academic foundation, enrollment for the upcoming school year is currently open. Hit the link below to schedule a tour.

We cannot build an ecosystem for students if we don't also build it for our educators.

In traditional high school education, teachers are often handed a rigid script and told to perform. But when you ask one of our incredible teachers what makes this environment different, his answer is simple: "I have the ability to adjust and do what I need to do to best help my students."

As a public charter high school, we don't believe in micromanaging our educators. We know that true student-centered learning requires flexibility. We trust our teachers to read the room, adapt their lessons, and show up as their authentic selves. Because, when a teacher feels fully supported by their administration, they have the bandwidth to ensure every single student in their classroom feels seen and supported, too.

We are incredibly grateful for Jesse and the way he champions our youth every day.

If you're exploring alternative education in Spokane and want your student to learn in a place where teachers are actually trusted to teach, enrollment for the upcoming school year is open.

Are you excited about where your child is going to high school next year?

It's a simple question, but for many Spokane parents exploring high school enrollment options, the honest answer is a quiet "no." Traditional education is often framed as a gauntlet to survive; a massive, crowded system where students are expected to keep their heads down, memorize the script, and try not to get lost in the crowd. For families of creative, quiet, or unconventional learners, that transition brings a lot more anxiety than excitement.

But what if Spokane high schools didn't have to feel like an assembly line?

Take a look at this classroom. There are no rigid rows of desks forcing students to stare at the back of someone's head. There are shared tables, open dialogue, and a teacher who actually has the time, space, and small class sizes to look every single student in the eye. As an alternative high school, we don’t believe in forcing youth into a standardized mold. We believe in building an ecosystem of care where they are known, valued, and trusted to collaborate.

When a young adult feels genuinely safe, seen, and supported, their entire relationship with education shifts. They stop just surviving the school day and start actively shaping their own future.

If you aren't excited about your student's options for next year, we want to invite you to step inside our doors. Come see what happens when a community replaces the assembly line with radical compassion.

Enrollment for the upcoming school year is now open. If you're looking for intentional education in Spokane, hit the link below to schedule a tour and hold space with us.

There is a stark difference between handing youth a fundraiser packet and teaching them how to build their own local economy.

On June 5th, the Class of 2027 is taking total ownership of their upcoming senior year expenses by hosting the Summer Kickoff: A massive, community-driven Spokane vendor market. We know that senior year can come with quiet financial anxiety. Instead of ignoring it, our students are actively solving it by inviting Spokane small businesses, local artisans, and community organizations to set up shop right alongside them.

📍 Event: Summer Kickoff Vendor Market
🗓️ Date: June 5th
🎟️ To Register: https://linktr.ee/innovationspokane to secure a booth or volunteer!

Right now, we have 32 incredible creators locked in, but our lot has the space to hold over 70.

If you're looking for summer vendor events to showcase your work, this is where your business makes a direct impact. Every $75 booth registration goes straight toward funding the Class of 2027. (And if you're a student creator, we have $10 half-booths waiting for you to test your ideas in the real world).

We want to fill this lot with the best Spokane local makers our city has to offer. Tag a business that needs to be here, and hit the link in our bio to claim your space. Let's fund their future, together.
