Spokane County WIC

Spokane County WIC Spokane Regional Health District & WCCC's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program serves thousands of clients at ten Spokane County locations.

Eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 receive WIC nutrition services, including:

- Nutrition evaluation, education, and counseling

- Breastfeeding tips and support

- Help finding health care and other social services

- Free food checks to purchase healthy foods. These foods provide high levels of protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C – promoting health, growth, and development.

WIC is celebrating World Breastfeeding Week. We will host 2 events. Aug.2 we will have a booth at the NECC/Hillyard Farmer's Market from 3-5pm. Stop by for some breastfeeding goodies and enter to win a breastfeeding gift basket.
Aug. 3 we will have a drive thru celebration at the Valley WIC office from 11-1pm. We will be handing out breastfeeding goodies and you can enter to win a breastfeeding gift basket.

Did You Know: The word broccoli comes from the Latin word brachium and the Italian word braccio, which means “arm.” It was grown mainly in Italy until the 16th century when a royal marriage brought the vegetable to France. Broccoli was invented by crossing cauliflower and pea seeds; and is high in vitamins C and K1 and minerals like potassium, manganese, and iron.

Did You Know: Spinach is a cool-season crop and belongs to the goosefoot family. It is a native plant of Persia (modern-day Iran), low in calories, and a good vitamin C, vitamin A, and minerals source, especially iron.
